I can imagine it's tough for you and your company to distance themselves from the folks out in California that have given Sea Safaris such a bad name. Hopefully some of the folks in this echo will have the chance to go on one of your dive excursions and then they can give an unbiased evaluation of the service. I just got back from 2 months of diving in PI. I liked Batangas best for coral, dove there most every weekend. Went out to the Tubataha reef about 100 miles off of Palawan, the coral wasn't as pretty, but the sharks were bigger and more plentiful, as were the tuna, jacks, and turtles. One of the divers on the trip got DCS doing repetitive deep dives, and spent a week over in Guam aboard the U.S.S Holland in the chamber. I went with him (to Guam, not the chamber), but didn't get to do any diving. I hear Guam is also very nice. Back to PI. I heard 3 Dynamite blasts while diving. The fishermen are still going at those reefs. I also dove off of Puerto Gallera and Verde Island. Great stuff! I hope to go back next month for a week. Fell madly in love with my divemaster while I was there. What can I say, hooked two ways over there. Did you dive out of a shop or did you just show up and rent a Banka or how did you go about your diving? I dove through Oceana Divers in Makati. I would give a detailed description of the trip, but in 2 months, there was so much, it would take an eternity to describe it all! Fantastic! Replying to a message of Bill Coltharp to Michael Chua: -*>> Quoting Michael Chua to All, <26 Jun 95 21:33:27> <*- MC>> Hi, I am a diver from the Philippines. BC> Please tell us about Philippine diving. What kind do you do (ie BC> drift, at anchor, etc). What kind of water do you have? Coral? what BC> kind of fish? What water temperatures and visibilities do you usually BC> encounter? What are your favorite dive sites? (I'll look them up on BC> my "Global Explorer" CD. I just spent 2 months diving there. The water is warm and clear, lots of coral everywhere in all shapes and colors. Tropical types of fish. Prolific ones are Moray Eeels, Scorpion fish, trigger fish, Angel fish, Jacks, Tuna, Stone Fish, Blue Spotted Sting Rays, Lionfish, Puffer fish (Dog face, Spiney, and others). The list just goes on and on, even after 2 months, I still wasn't even close to being anything but overwhelmed by the quantity and variety of what was down there. I could dive there for years and still be craving the next one. I hope I get to go back soon. My favorite dive sites were in Batangas Province. Mainit, Arthurs point, Twin Rocks, Aphol's Point (Though that might not be an official name, the Dive master I was diving with that day was named Aphol). Other good places to dive in PI that I went to are Puerto Gallera, an island about a 1 hour banca ride from the mainland in good weather, 2 hours if there are any waves. From Puerto Gallera, there is an Island called Verdi island that is always good as well to go to for the day. Most dives are pretty deep. You can usually expect your first dive of the day to be 130'. If you make it over there, places to stay are: Batangas - El Pinoy, Puerto Gallera - El Galleon. Prices are very good over there for diving and lodging, they help to offset the price of the airfair over there. About $45 U.S. will get you a weekend in the resort with all food included, and 2 dives a day from a boat, Tanks and weights are also included in the deal. Extra costs are drinks, 3rd + dives and any other gear you need to rent. I dove through a Dive shop in Manila called Oceania Divers, you can get in touch with Raquel Roldan at 011-632-851-777 (calling from the U.S.). If you have any more questions I'd be happy to answer them! I'm working a lot of overtime right now at work so I can go back for another few weeks, so I might not be able to reply same day. :) Peace and Love!, Joe! --- FleetStreet 1.00 NR * Origin: Sasquach BBS 1:215/25 (510)462-9502 (1:215/300) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 186 SCUBA Ref: CBC00011 Date: 07/03/95 From: STAN DEAN Time: 10:28am \/To: JAMES GAMPPER (Read 4 times) Subj: Cave diving JG> CA> Where did James Gampper come up with this little tid bit of info. ave JG> CA> diving as the most dangerous sport in the world? Dave... I am certified both NAUI and PADI and have been for about ten years. Both agencies have some differences, but they both teach safe recreational diving depth limits. If your instructor didnt fill you in on the depth limits than I would suggest that you read up on them for yourself.. might help keep you out of trouble. I was curious also as to how long you have been certified... the agency bashing did not indicate any great degree of maturity. Later...
