I thought for awhile that it may have been the ten-year old tape GR> starting to fail, but then some of it has never been used. Is that A-77 provide the tape tensioning with pads behind the tape on the record/play heads, and or by the supply/feed spools? Take dropouts / fadeouts can be caused by any number of things: Worn Tape Worn Pressure pads behind heads Worn Heads Worn Pinch rollers or rollers dried out or need cleaning (Teac rubber cleaner comes in handy here) Insufficiant supply spool tension caused by worn brake pads, belts etc. Insufficiant take-up spool torque. Insufficiant pinch roller pressure against capstan. Not all of these may apply as some spools have their motors supply the tension. Head replacement would be the last resort, as the match between your present tapes and the new head would need to be exact for continued proformance at the level you have now. GR> Spec. variations from machine to machine can be enough to make an GR> audible difference. Just my opinion though. Exactly. The tighter the specs, the more expensive the machine, and less variation that *should* occur. :) Cameron Hall cameron.hall@bluebeam.gryn.org | ad121@hwcn.org Blue Beam MailServer | 905 662 5784 | Stoney Creek ON Canada | v34 FAX * Evaluation copy of Silver Xpress. For MIDI files, the difference is striking. It's like the difference between a musical Christmas card and a real keyboard. Of course, since the wavetable cards are also a generally higher-quality ard, your .WAV files should sound better too. :) Phil --- Bink/Max/GE 1.20 Pro * Origin: Analytical Engine CBCS [440] 942-3876 (1:157/554) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 183 AUDIO Ref: EFP00003 Date: 11/19/97 From: CHUCK ALLEN Time: 05:18am \/To: CAMERON HALL (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: Dolby s walkman -> CA> I have an Aiwa HS TX-710 which has Dolby B and C along with AM / -> CA> FM stereo and clock, too. :) -> I take it the tuner is Digital?
