The first is a Sanyo it's about 13 years old. The second is a Sony and it's a 1996 model. Now the Sony has automatic HxPro for recording I recorded the same song twice on a metal tape. Once on the sony and once on the sanyo. recording both with Dolby C NR and on the type IV tape setting. To my surprise, the sanyo recording had clearer highs. Not believing my ears I tried the same test but instead of a metal tape I used a type II. Still, the old Sanyo ruled supreme. The sony recording has more high frequency noise, when apparently HxPro is supposed to reduce high frequency noise and distortion. Is anyone out there noticing anything similar or have any reasons? I'd like to hear from you. Thanks! -Kevin Jones --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Frog Hollow Port Moody BC 604-469-0264/0284 (1:153/290) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 183 AUDIO Ref: E3K00000 Date: 03/15/97 From: JOHN ALLEN Time: 01:29pm \/To: THOM KOUWENHOVEN (Read 1 times) Subj: Cables & Skin Effect Ref: Skin Effect & Audio Cables Hello Thom, Tara Labs has designed an entire series of new audio cables around the "skin effect". The "RSC" series of cables have oblong elements, each individually insulated. The number of elements varies and the price rises as the number of elements goes up. I do not believe they are "wound" as in twisted pair. Spacing between elements is kept semi-constant by the layered insulating materials for the length of the cables. I do not know enough about the topic to address magnetic effects, but they must be minimal. To date, they have received exceptionally good reviews in the legion of audio magazines. I solicited comments from RSC cable users in the RAHE (Internet-Audio, High End) news group and got more than thirty responses, all of which were very positive and many which were glowing. I also listened to a pair in comparison with a top of the line Audioquest pair at a local dealer. I was very pleased with the demo and purchased a pair. There is a night and day difference between my Tara Labs and my old Monster Cable. I noticed an immediate difference in all frequencies, not just higher frequencies. So whether it is due to the RSC "skin effect" design, the insulation or the type of copper being utilized....it works, and it covers the audio spectrum...high to low. I've never heard of the speakers response to go lower with a higher volume. You may be hearing differences with room acoustics, closeness of the back port to the wall, and general speaker placement. Speaker placement has A LOT to do with frequency response. The manufacturers response was done with close micing of the speakers cone, and everybody knows that the room and placement can add of subtract how much 'stuff' you hear. Stuff being enhanced bass or extended highs. It's almost like the 80Hz 'cabin gain' found in automobiles..... --- FMail 1.02 * Origin: Electronic Avenue * San Antonio, TX * 210-333-0060 (1:387/510) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 183 AUDIO Ref: E3L00002 Date: 03/13/97 From: THOM KOUWENHOVEN Time: 02:53pm \/To: JOHN ALLEN (Read 1 times) Subj: Ultimate Sound Conditioning!
