I have A Marshall Valvestate 8100 that just recently started acting up. When I play through the amp (signal through the effects loop and the effects loop controll knob cranked all the way) the signal gets saturated (like theres too much low end) and the volume increases slightly. It seems to play fine for the first 5 minutes or so, but after that, the signal starts to act up..I tried turning the effects knob hard left, and it the amp seems to be ok when set like this.. I'm guessing that it's a chip thats gone bad, but not really sure.. Any suggestions? --- TriToss (tm) Professional 1.0 - (Unregistered) * Origin: Origin:NIGHT WING BBS(803-767-8212)1:372/278*V-34 (1:372/278.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 183 AUDIO Ref: E2J00006 Date: 02/13/97 From: SEAN DUNBAR Time: 10:38pm \/To: ALL (Read 2 times) Subj: Hi... again. Well... on the topic of ohms... I have a set of DCM speakers (please stop laughing :) ), hooked up to a JVC reciever (I said stop laughing! ;) )... the reciever has one of those nice warning tags saying not to go below 8 ohms; however, the speakers are 6 ohms (I didn't know this at the time when I bought them). Will this hurt anything, besides shortening the life of my reciever a bit? It seems to run slightly warmer, though I usually keep it turned down fairly low (it goes up to 30, I normally keep it at 2-3). It's rated (by JVC mind you) at 120x2 @ 8 ohms... I like to meet the person that could hear the difference between gold and non gold contacts. The only time you have to consider the size of the wire is ... 1> you run HIGH WATTS... like 200 up. 2> The speakers will be more than 20 feet from the anp. You naturally don't want to use the small wire like on some home chepie systems. If I have the speakers very far from the AMP I would use a heavier gauge of regular electric cord. Like the king you would use to power a 500 watt light bulb. I have set up amps with all of this in mind and have NEVER had a bit of trouble. When I played music on the road I used two 435 watts RMS amps to power everything. The neat thing about a high power amp is that it usually takes LESS watts to get the same sound. A small amp has to strougle while a big amp just coasts along. Hope this was of some help. ... Hi John! -> First, I must say that I recently replaced my old (original) -> Monster Cable speaker cables with a pair of name brand, semi -> expensive speaker cables. We set up a semi-blind test of these two -> and a third set of cables (Kimber) on loan from a friend. Much to my -> surprise there was a big difference between the Monster Cables and -> the other two. The Monster Cable seemed to sound less brilliant and -> exacting in the mid-range and treble. So, at least with my system, -> and the music I listen to..... there is a difference. Interesting results of your test. What cables did you end up with and Jwhat is supposed to be so special about them? -> To that end I have a question about the wiring inside the gear. -> Is there a difference between multistrand wire and solid core wire of -> the same diameter and insulation in conductivity and possible noise? -> Would rewiring the inside of an amp with a bigger and better -> quality wire make a difference that one can hear? Will state that as yes. but perhaps not one can hear. It's the weakest link in a chain type of thing determines how good good can be. -> Is there a difference between the old fashion pot metal binding -> posts and the brass and gold plated ones of today...if the old ones -> are clean? Is the less corrosive(sp?) nature of the gold plating the -> only advantage? My philosophy is to use the shortest lengths possible of the best and biggest conductors (stranded) with as few connectors, solder joints, connectors and other breaks, transitions as possible from the power amp output transistors to the speaker coil. -> Thank you in advance for your comments. No charge, John! I have some copy around here from the Monster folks that I've been meaning to put up on the echo but it's another "roundtoit" at this moment. Might be time to put it up. Also just got off of Carver looking around at their current line. Bonnie *:> --- HyperMail! v1.22 * Origin: Omni - (916) 388-0905, longest running Sac BBS (1:203/3333)
