I have also seen it sandwiched between two layers of MDF for home stereo applications, but was a little disappointed with the results in that usage. I also tried using it as an internal damping material in building a three-way speaker system for the home and cannot rec' it for that use. It sounded awful! But, for mobile apps, I haven't seen anything even remotely like it. My youngest son took a very small strip and placed it on one of my wifes crystal glasses, then struck it with the edge of a heavy spoon. Instead of the long, sharp, distinct ringing that we would normally get, we instead got a light "thump". Now that is extraordinary! My son advises that vehicle doors, trunk lids and walls, and hoods can all benefit from its' usage. He has lined the roof and front floor of his vehicle with it also. It has made a remarkable difference in quieting down the interior from road noise/sounds, as well as calming vibrations from his sound system. One other tidbit he has offered. There are a couple products on the market that look like the same product and make some pretty wild claims. He advises that you ONLY use the actual Dynamat product. The competition doesn't cut it, yet. Seems that most car audio folks are only interested in bass, and to hell with fidelity or clean sound as long as you can get 10dB more volume at 3% THD. If anyone wishes to start a Car Audio echo, please do! I'd love to be able to tell most of those folks where to put their messages!!! I've seen some simple systems and wondered > how they sounded as good as they did! Hi Greg! Some of the most impressive systems ARE the simple looking ones. Audio doesn't need to be complex. Show me two pieces of gear at the same price, one with lots of whistles and bells and one that is simple, and I'll think that the simple looking one has more inside that outside most of the time and tend to respect it more much of the time. So many folks are dazzled with BS and easily duped into believing that razzle dazzle is worth the ney. I am currently building a couple of subs for a small PA system. I'm going for a ported design and I'm wondering how critical port dimensions are. I've seen a lot of cheaper commercial designs that just have a rectangular "hole" at one end of the baffle, very few seem to use a round port of a specific length as in HI-FI stuff. Is this because it doesn't matter or they don't care? I'm using a single RCF L 15P 530 in each box (if they ever arrive!), the catalog suggests a port 150mm ID by 127mm long but that won't fit on my frount baffle. I figure two 100mm ports will have the same area so I'll go with that. A nagging question remains... does it really make much difference? A rectangular port is much easier to make. Any advice would be appreciated :). --- TMail v1.31.5 * Origin: adam.com.au 64 lines all 300 to 28k (08) 370 5775 (3:800/805) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 183 AUDIO Ref: DAA00002 Date: 05/23/96 From: MARK MADRONIO Time: 06:32pm \/To: ALAN RODGERS (Read 3 times) Subj: Philips 6-head VCR -=> Quoting Alan Rodgers to Mark Madronio <=- MM> Philips has the only 6-head VCR I'm aware of (that's aimed for the MM> general public). I'd then need a transformer to use it back home. As you may have seen here, there now seems to be a third generation MD! As I've said before, I use professional Otari MD machines in a radio station which have suffered problems not being able to read disks, etc. There are also problems with track management; if you erase a track, all the other tracks on the disk are promptly re-numbered - which is a major hassle in an organisation like a radio station. There are ways around this, but it's complicated. Not all brands work the same way, and maybe they'll improve on that. Good to hear from you. ...from Brisbane, Australia. ...
