That's my rhythm! Could anyone tell me what new stuff TD has done, now that Johannes Schmoelling has departed and Paul Haslinger is in? I'm mostly interested in the long playing CD's similar to Tangram, Encore, Poland, Logos Live in London, and Green Desert. Is Christoph Franke still with TD? What new projects are they working on? Where do I go for info on my favourite music crew? Hey man, when is Tangerine Dream comming to Toronto again??????? Any new long-playing CD recommendations? Man, I gotta get news! He's a very good bass CR> player -- is he noticeable on the album? The only Genesis connection I can CR> think of between East and Banks is that Phil Collins played drums with CR> Clapton at the same time that East was playing bass with Clapton. Maybe CR> Banks met East through Collins. Also, Collins and East were featured on Philip Bailey's _Chinese Wall_ album. "Easy Lover" was written by Bailey, Collins, and East. 8) That was in 1984, about a year before Collins and East hooked up with Clapton (_Behind The Sun_, if memory serves). <<<<<=====----- Chris -----=====>>>>> Team AMIGA U.S.A. ... Soon -> It's somewhat less commercial, despite "Congo" or "Shipwrecked", i.e. -> a smaller palette of songs. Some things sound rather strange for some -> minutes, but then you get used to it and it's simply good. (eg The -> Dividing Line or Alien Afternoon) The intro to The Dividing Line is by far my favorite track on the album.. One thing that, IMHO, they could do with it in the future is hand the tapes over to, say, Stephen Hague (Producer of a lot of semi-well-known brit-pop acts such as Pet Shop Boys and New Order) for remixing.. A Genesis dance song.. who would have thought? (BTW, is the intro played on the keyboards or on a heavily distorted bass guitar? I think it's probably keyboards but the idea of Tony manhandling a nice big base into submission is an interesting thought.. much like the remix I talked about earlier..) I think.. :) Being relatively new to the echo, and having, at best, spotty access to it (anyone know a BBS that carries this echo reliably and is local to Hayward, California?), as well as a son of an Elton John and Billy Joel fan, and a moderate fan of them myself, I must now end this horrendous run-on sentence and ask you all a question: "What's the deal with Elton and Billy? Why were we not allowed to discuss them until last month and why was I not even allowed to THINK about them?" I think I'll hang out and listen for a while; I always learn something from you. (Thanks!) Breakfast with M,D & M, eh? sounds like an interesting morning... guess everything else that day was anticlimactic, to say the least (or was it?). I dimly recall Zappa producing GF, but only dimly... I think I may have left the bounds of prog rock with that; sorry, I wasn't thinking topically- nothing new... My personal thang is world music-- but I lean toward the progressive aspect a bit more than the traditional. There's a Scottish lady named Talitha MacKenzie who uses E.African Polyrythms and instruments from all over (her voice is the best one, though); I'd consider her a prog rocker, given the sophistication... another one outta Scotland is Shooglenifty-- they tried to classify themselves as something like "Acid-techno-funk-trance-rock..." I dunno; I think your classification is a lot more to the point, and simpler- if one is to join the Age of Classification (yet, also the Age of Diversity?) I passed on a chance to get a boxed set of Brian Eno's work really cheaply-- lady wanted 15 bucks for it... guess I was busy elsewhere or something. Just a few random thoughts... I'll keep the offline mailreader dialed to this station, though-- you run a pretty good show. Oh, I got a moderator's spot here in KC on UsersNet-- music, no less. And a bibliophile's chat group too... Not much traffic yet, but it's a great way to stay disciplined as a writer.
