That's no excuse, but I suppose your sysop will have told you this. You just sent your message all over the world in an echo devoted to the discussion of progrock music, wasting in cumulative total many dollars in long distance telephone charges, many megs of hard drive space and perhaps thousands of people's time. Be careful, small actions can have large repurcussions. Your carelessness has already caused the nation's GNP to drop several percentage points, with a potential snowball effect, possibly leading up to global economic instability that could well result in world war III or even worse, another reunion tour by the Eagles. Now, I will eventually forgive you but not until I have punished you thoroughly by explaining some of the lines to "Hotel California" On a dark desert highway - numbnutz forgot to turn on his headlights, prolly whacked on blow cool wind in my hair - getting old and balding warm smell of culitos, rising up in the air - simple physics and linguistics: culitos is Spanish for anuses, obviously someone has farted, and as we know, cool air sinks (down to where it would be in his hair?) and hot gases rise. So I called up the Captain - obvious reference to Daryl Dragon, keyboard player for The Captain and Tenille and probably one of the Eagles favourite golfing buddies. We haven't had that Spirit here - a reference to what the song is really about, not *hotel* California but *Randy* California, especially with the reference to balding bringing to mind Randy's chrome-domed step-dad, drummer Ed Cassidy. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave - this line was stolen from the advertizing slogan for Roach Motels (a little carboard box with poison) which is even more effective if you flip the box over and read it in Spanish: Pueden entrar pero no pueden salir. Ooooh, gives me nightmares. And I finish with my favourite Eagles joke: why did the roadie reverse the polarity on the amp and pull lose the grounding? Cuz he wanted to see Glenn Fry! There, suffered enough? I haven't heard any Pink Floyd news since I saw the rumor of a Pink Floyd reunion (that means Roger Waters coming back) on Bloomberg Television (you know, the Headline News ripoff with the news anchor in the top right of the screen). The only other rumor I've heard about Floyd in the past year (I won't even waste my breath on that God-awful "Glass Eye" rumor) is a rumored concert in London on Dec. 31st, 1999 (I guess to ring in the new millenium). I hope that if it happens that MTV will show it live...I'd rather see it on something like MTV than on pay-per-view. I guess a new album has been delayed in case Waters does decide to come back (he would have to put his ego aside...I think Richard Wright still has some bad feelings towards him...BTW have you heard Wright's "Broken China" yet...I heard it's pretty good, better than his previous solo efforts). Too bad that Syd's in poor health (mentally and physically...I heard that at one point he was severely ill with complications from diabetes)...I guess if Syd hadn't gone off his rocker (so to speak), Floyd wouldn't have created such masterpieces as _Wish You Were Here_ (especially "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"), _The Wall_, and _Dark Side Of The Moon_. --- Telegard v3.02 * Origin: The Steiner Line BBS 910-626-7985 (1:3648/6) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 182 60'S 70'S ROCK Ref: EEM00001Date: 10/17/97 From: BARRY LAWS, JR.
