I admit that this is mainly a channel for old farts, e.g. retro (Beatles, Baronets, Elvis, Mamas and the papas, etc.), and AOR crap (Lara Fabian and her wonderfully oiled tits, Celine "666" Dion, and pseudo-r'n'b), but we might have a chance of seeing some Octobre and late Harmonium sometime, or Genesis, Yes, ... Next, since there are now 2 music TV stations almost exclusively for a 7 million population, i just hope that the other station (MusiquePlus) will start playing more experimental music, just to avoid overlapping contents (after all, both channels belong to the same guy). What might be our worse nightmare is that they play more RAP music instead, but i think a fair compromise could be that they'd play Experimental Rap music. :-) Apart from that, the level of progginess of pop music has still raised by 1% since last month, or maybe i'm just seeing things, as usual :+) matju --- Terminate 4.00/Pro * Origin: The Lost Remains Of SatelliteSoft BBS (1:163/215.42) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 182 60'S 70'S ROCK Ref: EDE00003Date: 09/09/97 From: KENNETH NEWMAN Time: 10:58pm \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: GONG shows in USA west I saw Pedro posted this to the Ozrics list and knew he wouldn't mind if I cross post here. Hello All, After some weeks of vacation and some weeks of fidonet-problems, my Sysop changed his HUB and I can write again in 60S_70S! Bought very much Prog in the past months, too much to describe it all, but I would certainly want to mention the following: * Tangerine Dream _Phaedra_ : At first this didn't strike me as much as _Ricochet_, which has a very strong rhythm. But I grew into it, as I do most of the time after listening a few times in the dark. Very hypnotic music. * Yes _Keys To Ascension_ : Hmm, of course no Yes album can be bad, but KTA is a bit... disappointing. I had expected more spirit in the Live album. But still, the fact that it is Classic Yes Reunited (and Wakeman is out again I've heard) is wonderful, and hearing these new 15-minutes pieces is mind-blowing. The genius of these people is amazing. Furthermore, a friend of mine talked me into a Fish concert next week in Amsterdam (a 120 km drive, fortunately he will provide transport). After hearing some Live Fish (Sushi), I really look forward to it, though it can never attain the heights of a classic Marillion concert. Oh, BTW, any changes to the rules? Progrock still the topic? It's just that I've been away such long time, things may have shifted towards House 'n Techno :-o ;-) -/_- , (With SOYCD greetings) | Fidonet: 2:292/867.5 | Steven | svim@urania.knooppunt.be | --- FMail/386 1.02 * Origin: Into the distance, a ribbon of Black (2:292/867.5) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 182 60'S 70'S ROCK Ref: EDF00001Date: 09/08/97 From: STEVEN VAN IMPE Time: 08:59pm \/To: STUART HEDGES (Read 0 times) Subj: Calling all stations Hallo Stuart, Monday August 25 1997 10:08, Stuart Hedges wrote to All: SH> I'm a relative prog newbie, but I've fixed in here in the hope of SH> finding new bands that I might like. That's the spirit. I'm into progrock for about a year and a half now, is that still newbie? You will certainly find new bands you like, and some you dislike. Don't be bothered in that case, give them a rest and try it again. If that fails, concentrate on other bands. There's enough music out there! Fish is up there somewhere, too, but he has done very few impressive things since he left Marillion, IMHO. I've tried Jethro Tull for a very little bit, but I didn't find it that interesting. Things will probably change if I get time to listen to it. Rush is unknown to me. For early Genesis: really do try them, they're great. Genesis' _Selling England By The Pound_ is remarkable, (also features 'I Know What I Like', covered by Fish on _Songs from the Mirror_). Yes is even better. My first album was _Close To The Edge_ (and in fact, it is still my only real album. The others are a compilation and a live/new studio). I didn't like it at first, but you really have to give it a chance, get into the rhythm, get used to the style, the breaking points, the unusual sound of Jon Anderson's voice, ... SH> Some Internet friends are desperately trying to persuade me to go to a SH> Porcupine Tree gig which is on near here soon, but I've never heard SH> any of their stuff before. I haven't heard any Porcupine Tree, but it is next on my 'to explore'-list. Don't miss the opportunity of seeing a band you might be interested in! SH> I've hardly heard of any of the bands you discuss, but I'll look out SH> for them and see if I find anything I like! Be careful! Some of the bands discussed here are extremely obscure. Try to get on with the bigger ones first (those that sound the least exotic, forget Xaal, Zuehl, The Half-Rotten Oranges on LSD (I'm just making that one up), ...). Another warning: don't try to find everything people tell you is 'good': you will end with a mountain of bad cd's and an empty wallet. Try to listen before you buy. I will do one recommendation: If you're very much into Pink Floyd's early 70's (Atom Heart Mother Suite, Echoes, perhaps Careful With That Axe, Eugene) you'll probably like Tangerine Dream. They're (mostly) instrumental, psychedelic and minimal. -/_-, (with SOYCD greetings) | Fidonet: 2:292/867.5 | Steven | svim@urania.knooppunt.be | --- FMail/386 1.02 * Origin: Into the distance, a ribbon of Black (2:292/867.5) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 182 60'S 70'S ROCK Ref: EDM00000Date: 09/09/97 From: MM325@WORLDNET.ATT.NET Time: 12:49am \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: Re: LOSE WEIGHT WHILE YOU SLEEP Path: Supernews69!Supernews60!su-news-feed2.bbnplanet.com!su-news-hub1.bbnplanet.com ! cpk-news-hub1.bbnplanet.com!news.bbnplanet.com!worldnet.att.net!newsadm From: mm325@worldnet.att.net Newsgroups: alt.support.diet,alt.support.diet.rx,alt.support.diet.zone,fidonet.dieting Subject: Re: LOSE WEIGHT WHILE YOU SLEEP Date: Tue, 09 Sep 1997 04:49:13 GMT Organization: AT&T WorldNet Services Lines: 14 Message-ID: <5v2kgi$g90@bgtnsc02.worldnet.att.net> References: <34123e3a.45510588@news> <5uti0e$r3h@bgtnsc03.worldnet.att.net> <34125e7b.53768946@news> <5uuhn8$3nc@bgtnsc03.worldnet.att.net> <3412CD3C.58C2@sprintmail.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: 207.147.186.129 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Newsreader: Forte Agent 1.01/32.396 Xref: Supernews69 alt.support.diet:72804 alt.support.diet.rx:8579 alt.support.diet.zone:368 On Sun, 07 Sep 1997 10:50:20 -0500, Maria and Michael Checkley wrote: >mm325@worldnet.att.net wrote: > > > >Spam, spam, go away >or you'll lose your account today, today!!
