The only real member of Brand X was Goodsall, CR> but the other guys that he brought with him were good (one of these CR> players was the keyboard player for the early 5uus band). Hmmm... never heard of them. Who were they? Am I missing something? CR> I love to see him again doing Brand X or any Proggy/Fusiony type CR> stuff again. He's a marvelous guitarist. What're the Fire Merchants like? Same kind of fusion stuff as Brand X? ** re: _Peter & The Wolf_.... CR> ...if you like Brand X and its successors, you'll enjoy this. Overall, CR> the style of music is more like Marscape (Lancaster and Lumley wrote CR> all of the songs on this) and Wilding/Bonus than Brand X, if you know CR> what I mean. I haven't heard `Wilding/Bonus' but I LOVE the _Marscapes_ album! CR> ...tells the story of Peter and the Wolf using different instruments CR> and songs (some of Prokofiev's original themes are still used, others CR> are not) for each character. That's cool. Always liked the Prokofiev music, too. CR> There's much more music here than narration (by Viv Stanshall) than CR> the classical versions I've heard. That's cool too. Although I do like Viv Stanshall's voice. I don't know if you were aware, but apparently he died last year. ;-( CR> The best song on it, in my opinion, is "Peter's Chase," which is in CR> the vintage Brand X (ala _Unorthodox Behaviour_) style. Great little CR> song. CR> But, then there's two songs on it that I can't believe could ever be CR> associated with these musicians: ..... But, let me say that the album CR> is worth hearing if you skip over these two songs. CR> So, who's on it? Well, check this out: CR> How's that lineup?!! There's only a couple of people that I'd never CR> heard of. Wow! Yeah, only a few that I haven't heard of. Thanks for the review, Clark. I'm going to look for a copy of this one, too. Can you give me some info like that label, release date, etc? Chuck Berry is Rock 'n' Roll. Fats Domino, Little Richard, pre-Rubber Soul Beatles, Stray Cats, Alvin Lee, 3 chords, 12 bars, real fast. Rock 'n' Roll is 50's based. yes was born in the late 60's and established their style in the early 70's, and it definitely ain't Rock 'n' Roll. We call it "Prog-Rock" here. It's complex, has classical forms, rock beats, a kazillion chord & key changes, etc., etc. Sheez. Those alternative bands are far more close to the source of Rock 'n' Roll than our beloved Yes. That's why they are popular and Yes isn't much. But who cares what's popular? Music for the masses is bound to be centrist, lowest common denominatorized. My personal favorite on GS> that album is "Palewell Park." I've listened to that once, but it didn't do much for me. GS> Do you have or have you seen or have you heard the album by GS> Players? It was a one-time studio release. Jeff Berlin on bass, T GS> Lavitz on keyboards, Scott Henderson on guitar, and Steve Smith (from GS> Journey) on drums. It really would fall under the "fusion" category, GS> but the playing is amazing!! Smith's a good drummer. I like his work on the first three Journey albums. Nope, never heard of Players.
