He was there. I think. DM> But I did hear a song by BR-549 a couple weeks ago BR-549? Wasn't that one of those turntables where you had to tape coins onto the tonearm? And doesn't "Arriving UFO" sound like a Moraz piece? BH> The Meeting-Martin Barre I like Martin Barre, but I've never thought that he was quite right for Jethro Tull. However he's now so much a part of the band that it's hard to imagine anyone else with them. Anyway, I'm very interested in whether he wrote the material on this album and what it sounds like. BH> Test For Echo-Rush I'm hearing good reviews about this one, albeit mostly from long time fans. ;-) For some reason Rush never did anything for me during their first decade or so. I didn't become a fan until the late 80s - in fact the very first Rush album I bought was _Presto_ (1989)! ;-) BH> None Too Soon-Alan Holdsworth Is this a recent release, or something older? Does he play mostly his `Synth-axe' or guitar? Also, are there any vocals on it, or is it entirely instrumental? And finally, what's your over all opinion of it? BH> Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus-Rolling Stones w/others With reference to the first item on your list, when Jethro Tull played at the Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, their original guitarist Mick Abrahams had just left (he formed Blodwyn Pig) and Tull were auditioning new players. The guy filling in on guitar for this particular date may have been under consideration for the job. His name was Tony Iommi !! Of course, Martin Barre eventually got the gig. Tony Iommi met up with Ozzy Osbourne and formed Black Sabbath instead. ;-) BH> Breathless-Camel It's been years since I listened to it, but I've always thought _Breathless_ was a good album. Maybe I like it because it was so different compared to any other groups I was listening to at the time. The next albums were certainly good, but by then maybe I was just accustomed to their sound, you know? oops...don't know what happened there. The first one is "Prologue." I also have "Ashes are Burning," "Scherezade," and two tapes that someone made and gave me. One has "Camera Camera" on it, and most of that whole side. The other has "Jekyll and Hyde" and "Winter Tree" on it, along with 4 other songs. I like the song "Camera Camera," but the group seems to have changed too much for me by that time. The first one had lots of electric guitar on it, well played. The song "Prologue" is excellent. There's one on side two titled "Rajah Khan" which was a good vocal show-off for Annie. In a trivial vein, do you know that Annie is married to Roy Wood, ex of the Move and founder of Wizzard's Brew? You may have succeeded and not known it. With FidoNet, you're probably not getting all the messages sent. I know *I* never have. I just bought a 2-CD set of theirs that appears to be most of their first 4 albums. I like it, but the early stuff (other than _Sardonicus_, which I have on tape and have heard before) is the best, and somewhere during albums 2 and 3 things kinda deteriorate. well, here's attempt #2: anyone want to talk about G>Renaissance? I have three of their albums. Which ones? Here's my recommendations: _Live at Carnegie Hall_ contains selections from their first 4 LP's. Annie's voice is noticeably better live than in the studio(!) They've got a full orchestra backing them for most of this. (the next 4 in no particular order) _Turn of the Cards_ contains 4 classics and 2 duds. The duds are shorter songs, though, and don't really detract (esp. if you skip them anyway). _Scheherazade_ contains the classic side-long title track and the high-70's classic "A Trip to the Fair", their heavy psych track. A couple of duds, too...still a classic album. _Ashes are Burning_ has another long title track, and the classic pop-prog song "Carpet of the Sun", the first Renaissance song I ever heard. A couple duds blah blah blah. _Prologue_ is a bit different, but still great. Some unusual moments. One dud per side. If you get all these and gotta have more, try: _Novella_ isn't quite as good as the above, but it is close. Side 1 (the first 2 songs) is outstanding. _A Song for All Seasons_ is a bit different from most, but has some great stuff. After that, yer on yer own.
