It brings out one of the few truly individual musicians, and artists, of our time. SD> Passport _Second Passport_ SD> Squarely in the same vein as Thirsty Moon. They are sister bands, and have had many members that wrote and played in each album, although Passport, for the longest time was more of Klaus Schulze's younger brother's band, than anything else. SD> Todd Rundgren _A Wizard A True Star_ SD> I dread his pop singing. It's so repetitive. There's not much SD> of it on this album, on first listen. Some pretty weird and SD> heavy stuff. At times, I was quite impressed. At times, I SD> wasn't. Definitely not his top 40 mode. The Wizard side is excellent. The Star side, is nice, but forgetable, mere pop covers he never did in concert. But side one is progressive stuff at its best, and very satirical, which he has never been able to duplicate... it must have been the drugs and Jean Yves Labat. SD> Strawbs SD> _Grave New World_ SD> _Hero and Heroine_ I enjoy Hero and Heroine, and their follow up GHOSTS even more. Believe it or not, I have not heard Grave New World, and dread the thought of hearing Wakeman, who I have always felt was terribly over rated as a musician. SD> Manfred Mann's Earth Band _Somewhere in Afrika_ SD> Sometime after they shoulda broke up, I think. The song SD> "Rebel" was grounds for summary execution alone. The material of theirs that is worth a listen, and really exciting to my ears, is the stuff in the early 70's, from GLORIFIED MAGNIFIED to SOLAR FIRE, and then the next album, where he dumped the Dylan songs in favor of a Springsteen song. SinA is already the later version of the band, which had a much more "rock" oriented side before. SD> Michael de Albuquerque _We May Be Cattle But We've All SD> Got Names_ SD> I gambled this would be worth $4.50 to Clark (I was right). SD> If not, I'm sure somebody will want it. It's got Ollie SD> Halsall, whom I've heard of before. Michael dA was with SD> ELO at some point. Ollie Halsall, is all over the Kevin Ayers stuff, the Grimms and the various Monty Python family of musicians, like Neil Innes. He also is one of the unmentioned backup musicians to Mike Oldfield, whenever he does a concert. Apparently Ollie does not want people to know that he can do serious stuff as well as crazy, inane stuff. ... lester___I sure miss the Beatles and their crazy days... --- FLAME v1.1 * Origin: Pacifier Online Data Service (1:105/101) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 182 60'S 70'S ROCK Ref: DE200003Date: 10/01/96 From: BILL HARRIS Time: 12:25pm \/To: MIKE MCCARTNEY (Read 3 times) Subj: Re: Hello Again/KC MM> A few quick questions from the KC newbie to all of you. Earthbound is of poor sound quality, hence, Fripp's reticence to have it rereleased. USA is a legitimate album. It's a live lp and features the Bruford/Wetton line up. Terrific stuff, however it has not been released on D and I think the LP is out of print.
