MR> I've gone off and on with Adrian Belew. That surprises me, Martin. I would have thought you would be really into him, as I know you are a Beatles fanatic, and IMHO, one of Adrian's biggest influences IS the Beatles. His vocal phrasings, on his solo albums especially, remind me so much of Lennon's, the way he trails off, goes out of the normal major/minor modes sometimes, and the occasional primal SCREAM. Anyway, happy listening Martin, and thank you for taking such good care of the Beatles FIDO echo. --- * OLX 2.1 TD * Guns don't kill people, angry bass players do. * Origin: Power Windows! is Win95 & MIDI! 205-881-8619 (1:373/27) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 182 60'S 70'S ROCK Ref: DDJ00003Date: 09/13/96 From: MICHAEL DOYLE Time: 09:28am \/To: STUART DUBOIS (Read 3 times) Subj: Fripp teachings SD> SD> I just remembered something: On RMP, somebody said that Fripp SD> SD> actually taught Boz to sing and play bass. Fripp also claims "to have found Greg Lake sweeping up in a washroom, and singing." He liked his voice, and also claims to have taught him "everything he knows about the guitar & bass." Perhaps the anal retentive needed to be surrounded by puppets? Hence the title "In the Court of the Crimson King"? Anywho, I think Fripp grew much as a person throughout the 70's & 80's; got the control-freak think under control. -.\\. --- * OLX 2.1 TD * They're coming to take you away, ha ha! * Origin: Power Windows! is Win95 & MIDI! 205-881-8619 (1:373/27) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 182 60'S 70'S ROCK Ref: DDJ00004Date: 09/12/96 From: STUART DUBOIS Time: 07:17pm \/To: FRANK SWARBRICK (Read 3 times) Subj: violin music GS> French jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty is also outstanding. If you like the title track (or suite) from that album, the classic Ponty album that isn't available on CD is _Live_ from around 76-78. It focuses on his best ensemble work, plus one computerized thing that works better than most (I liked it, and I'm no synth music fan). Don't know why it's not available on CD. SBA, I suppose. I actually found a place on the Internet that had echolyn's _Suffocating The Bloom_ CD, new, for $14.99. I was really surprised to see it since I was under the impression that all copies had been sold already, years ago. I snatched it up, obviously, and got their latest release, _When The Sweet Turns Sour_, which is a CD of unreleased demos, some live, their last few recorded songs, some songs from the _As The World_ sessions, and a cover of Genesis' "When The Sour Turns To Sweet" (great job on this one -- they really make it their own). This place is called M&M Music and their URL is: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/4500/ Fast delivery too! I ordered it on Monday and it came only 3 days later!
