BC> Smart woman. practial. people who have taken a 30-60% pay cut get upset to find you aren't willing to do likewise. grin. EL>> i'm not clear on how you are implementing this. BC> Then I probably am not clear either, since I don't understand what BC> you mean by "implementing". now i don't remember what i was asking about :) no matter ... EL>> have you considered doing a claim wizard or EL>> something for this and then printing the form from code? BC> I think I'm your typical male - short on vision. What's a 'claim BC> wizard'? you've seen lots of wizards in MS products, right? i meant one that was devoted to claim preparation. but perhaps your way is better. EL>> office girl who couldn't live without a hcfa form on her screen. EL>> hahaha. BC> Really? I thought it was an elegant idea (shows what a lack of BC> humility will do for you). One of the busiest family practice BC> groups in town prints a proof run of *all* HCFA1500s to BC> catch/correct errors before printing the real form. It is *that* BC> burdensome effort I was trying to nix by putting the form on the BC> CRT. Our new surgeon has his office girl typing the HCFAs on a BC> typewriter. [hope your sides don't split from the laughter] well, it is a neat idea if you have it working fairly fast and nice. the only problem really is the turnover rate on girls. maybe it is not so severe where you are. but i know a lot of practices that go thru a couple of them a year in a good year. and many get a new girl at least annually or so. usually without experience. so my bent would have been to simplify so she didn't have to understand the form she was filling out. BC> Yup, however fortunately virtually everyone now accepts the BC> HCFA1500 at a minimum, even if they have their own proprietary kewl. the times ... they have'a changed :) BC> standardization has been mandated by the HCFA (health care BC> financing administration), and they pull the $$$ strings. BC> Remember the saying about having them by the gonads and their BC> hearts and minds following? hahaha. that's hickfa. my first not under that table job was writing community reintegration training for vocrehab in a mental hospital. that meant jcaho hcfa and medicaid inspections. groan! BC> Medical Manager is one of the cadillac systems - $25,000 for the BC> full, network version. IMNSHO it is awful to work with. They ahh yes. i remember that one. because mostly i did mental health, i have only worked with it a few times and no, didn't like it at all. i liked versaform best ... the interface wasn't wonderful but the 4gl was handy as hell. BC> deficits by immediately seeing it wouldn't work for me. Helps BC> enormously that I do my own billing and know exactly what I need. o yes. it is muchly important to have a domain expert at the architecture level. saves a lot of mistakes. BC> Tricky... Um, I found it required meticulous attention to BC> semicolons so that line feeds wouldn't occur except when I wanted BC> them to. I've already fiddle with doing it via Win95/VB and it is BC> much more controllable from where I sit. It'll be laborious BC> converting that part of the code, but not really hard from what I BC> see. Will likely take a week (unless the miracle of birth keeps BC> dragging me back to the hospital at all hours of night....). printing onto preprinted forms is a pain. and yes, meticulous is definitely the word. BC> Haha. The Two part forms are optional - I like them so I can keep that's great. this was a big gripe of mine back when. i guess the big ECS folks had enuf muscle to get the gov to move up to the times. BC> track of who has paid and who needs to be called. 1-part your program will eventually promulgate a list, rite? BC> Gee, I love it when you use phrases like that. What is a 'data BC> model'? I'm just as likely to release this to the PD as anything, BC> so I'd be happy to post how I'm doing thus and so. I think some BC> of it is pretty clever. kewl! but i dn't know about this PD business. if you write a good product, it will be about the only one out there .... you should be compensated! consider releasing a lite version to the PD (or more accurately as shareware, even if you only require it to be registered at no charge) and yoru full bown version for real money. BC> C:\BillPrgm>DEL *.* | y hahaha. data model. i want to look at the organization of your information. evaluate the entity relationship. i want to see how your data is related and normalized. you can pick up some serious speed gains from good data structure. you may already have it :) i'm also interested in how you have implemented icd-9 coding :) BC> There, now I'm back at the beginning. Lay on, MacDuff! Actually, BC> since I'm not using this program yet to do anything, redesign is BC> possible, in fact I had to do some adding to the database BC> table/field structure again yesterday. this is access, rite? if you don't mind, send me your database structures (don't really need data ... doesn't matter.) --- eileen@technologist.com * Origin: Television is furniture. My first chance to answer a VB-related question! BC>Man, you are learning FAST! Well, it's incredibly easy switching from QB to VB for me for some reason. The language is almost identical, and I'm not intimidated by the forms & controls, so it's not much of a stretch at all. =u) BC>Change the "+" to "&". Fortunately VB understands the "+" as a math I've noticed that a few times in the manual, that is, the usage of the ampersand over that of the plus sign. What's the difference? BC>Since you have LOTS of room in VB, you might define your TempCaption >as sTempCaption so the 's' will tell you that variable is of type >string. That was the one main thing that I thought would cause me trouble in VB, is the lack of data signs. But I've seen the chart of data types & their prefixes in the book, so I guess I'll have to start doing that. =u) * OLX 2.1 TD * 01000010 01101100 01100001 01101000 00101110 --- Maximus 2.02 * Origin: Digital Encounters * Kamloops BC Canada 250/374-6168 (1:353/710) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 178 VISUAL BASIC Ref: EAE00014 Date: 06/08/97 From: DAVE SHEA Time: 01:56pm \/To: BUCKY CARR (Read 6 times) Subj: Memory & Stuff BC>Some of that is done with .DLLs which are Win95 versions of .OBJs that >you'd link in your MSDOS programs.
