The Moderator is David LeBlanc. This conference is devoted to discussion of comic books and comic strips in their various forms and their adaptions in film, video and television. Note the distinction of things based on comic books is not the same as discussing a particular actor's entire career because he once played Batman or discussing your favorite TV show because it once had a comic book about it. Think of it this way, Star Wars comic books are on topic, Star Wars movies, cards, figurines and the like are not. Superman comics are on topic, and so is "Lois & Clark" because it is based on comic book characters. If you stray too long from comics you will be asked to get back on topic. All other subjects are off topic. The moderator also reserves the right to end any topic thread at his discretion. When you are told to drop a thread you are expected to just stop, no response to the moderator or anyone else should be posted. Aliases are allowed in FIDO COMICS. The other rule specific to this conference is the use of SPOILER WARNINGS. Since everyone does not get, nor choose to read, their comics the minute they go on sale, we ask that you not reveal significant plot developments or cliffhangers for 10 days or so after the comic goes on sale. The proper way to begin a discussion about such elements is to use the word SPOILER *IN ALL CAPITALS* either in the Subject line or at the top of the message, along with the Title and Issue number you are discussing. The body of the message should then be followed by 20 or so blank lines before typing any plot details. This will allow those who choose not to read it to skip the message. CONDUCT: The rule to live by is "Don't be annoying, or easily annoyed." This means no flaming, even if you don't like what someone else has posted. Any user found to be slandering others, being abusive, discriminating against a person because of their Race, religion, color, sexual preference, culture, or sex; or if they are just plain arrogant will be warned to cease immediately. This also includes attacks on character, intelligence and physical characteristics as well as the use of slang or slurs on any ethnic or social group. Attempts to disguise a personal attack as one against a message or a third party not directly addressed will be regarded as a personal attack all the same. You may debate or dispute facts or opinions but you must treat others with respect at all times. The use of profanity is strictly prohibited, as is explicit language not normally used in polite company. *Overuse* of edited text with symbols like %$#@ to disguise foul language is also discouraged. We want everyone to feel comfortable about what they read. NEVER quote back language that is offensive to express your displeasure. Wait for the moderator to handle it. No illegal activity or discussion promoting illegal acts is allowed. Let the moderators moderate. If you can't wait for the net lag factor direct your complaint to the moderator, preferably by Netmail (or Email which is faster). Do not reprimand others who break the rules, doing this makes you an offender as well. The single best thing you can do to help us do our job is to *not* respond to any off topic message. BUYING & SELLING: Buying, selling or trading messages are not allowed in FIDO COMICS. Do not post them, even to leave a method to contact you out of the echo. Do not respond to such messages, it only perpetuates the problem. FIDO has established the CMX4SALE ECHO for this activity. Ask your Sysop to get that echo for you. Likewise, BBS ads are not on topic and we also ask that you limit signatures. QUOTING: Quote just enough of the message to which you are responding to let people understand your response. Quoting 20 or so lines just to say "I agree" is wasting space and adds to the costs of the member SysOps to move the mail. If you quote messages or articles from outside the echo you are requested to give credit to the original author. WARNINGS: If you violate the rules of the echo you will be warned to stop. Frequent violators may be excluded from the echo for periods of time deemed necessary or permanently in the extreme case. It is natural to protest moderation, but arguing about it excessively in the echo is not helpful. Such discussion must be taken to Netmail, if you must pursue it. NETMAIL is a way to communicate in FIDO privately one on one. Your SysOp can explain whether you are allowed access to the NETMAIL conference and what it might cost you. If you cannot access Netmail I can also be reached via Email at DavidLeB@ix.netcom.com and by voice on (508) 829-0511 day or night. Jason will soon finish pencilling LSH #107; Jeff needs to see that issue for reference to an event. Mike's favorite Legionnaires include Cham, Jo, Tinya, Timber Wolf, Karate Kid, and Rokk. Jeff would like to see Nura in her outfit that debuted in L* #16. He'd also like to see Tinya's middle black stripe extend all the way down her costume. Jeff doesn't redesign preboot Legionnaires' costumes unless they are reintroduced into current continuity. Jason said that with LSH #105, we can expect less-cartoony figures and more fleshed-out backgrounds. There are no plans for the Legion to appear (or reappear) in LEGENDS OF THE DCU or ADVENTURES IN THE DCU. Tom would like to see Levitz write a LEGENDS arc. Mike says the age range of the Legionnaires is 14-17. Nara Minsork might return. Jason thinks that Evolvo is potentially the most evil of the Workforce members. Maybe Jan can have a spotlight issue. Right now, he's on Outpost Allon. He won't be dying any time soon. In L* #60, when Sensor made the pilot believe that she was McCauley, that was not supposed to contradict L* #59's establishing that her powers don't work with electronic devices. In this case, she made the McCauley image, and it appeared to be coming from the Omnicom; she wasn't broadcasting the illusion through it. There are no plans for a relationship between Val and Laurel. There aren't any definite plans for the mini-series following SCIENCE POLICE. It's still too early to reveal more about the Legion's guest appearance on the next season of the SUPERMAN cartoon. Lyle will feature in much of the Dark Circle storyline. After the Dark Circle arc are a couple of single-issue stories. The Workforce will soon gain some new members. The new costumes for Brainy, Laurel, and Zoe are what they'll be wearing for a while (adjust that "while" for Zoe, of course :) ). About a couple months after that is #1,000,000. With Jamie Delano, Peyer is co-writing BIG JUSTICE, "about a privately owned prison in the near future". This miniseries, drawn by John McCrea be his first Vertigo work since his editing days there. Peyer's favorite Legionnaire for the moment is Brainy, especially with what's coming up with him. Peyer also likes Jan, and would like to focus on him. Jan will be developed, though Peyer couldn't say when. Former editor KC Carlson wants a Fatal Five story. No plans for a Starfinger return. Jeff hasn't designed any new planets recently, but he might soon. McCraw said that the reason why the 40th anniversary celebration is a bit late (it arrives with June cover dates, whereas ADVENTURE COMICS #247 was dated for April 1958) is "because not everything works out perfectly". This week, McCraw is recoding the colors for the eight volume of the LSH Archives, which includes the Legion of Super-Villains. He probably won't be finished with the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS reprint until June. Lori's blob form in L* #60 was Roger Stern's idea; Jeff designed the visuals. McCraw would have liked to see "Blobbetta" on a rampage. McCraw said "there is supposed to be" a short Legion story in the ADVENTURES COMICS 80-PAGE GIANT. He might write it. Jeff thinks he could fit an extra 10-page Legion story into his schedule, but he hasn't been asked yet. Peyer is writing a Tales of the Bizarro World story for this giant. While he'd love to write a Bizarro Legion, they do not appear in this story. Jeff wasn't sure if the shape of the Time Trapper's dialogue balloons (assuming it was him/her) on the last page of L* #60 were a hint. McCraw said it wasn't a hint of a Superman connection. The bar patron wearing an Ultra Boy-like costume on pg. 10 of LEGENDS OF THE LEGION #4 wasn't Jo; it was one of the Dragon gang he associated with. Since he didn't write LotL, McCraw didn't know why Thom's powers were dissimilar to Jo's, when they supposedly got them the same way. McCraw is "still looking for that comet". There will be many brand new villains in the coming year. We'll learn more about Jeka's mother soon. Cham was the character that McCraw had the most fun with in the upcoming Dark Circle story. Cham doesn't do that much, but he does get development and resolution. Jeff has plans for Catspaw, but he warned, "just because I have plans for her doesn't mean they'll get done". McCraw said, "no firm Catspaw plans t". Jeff couldn't decide which preboot character was his favorite to draw in L* #61, which features mostly the Adventure-era Legionnaires, with other periods briefly represented. He used the Archives for reference, and there'll be lots of scenes of the team, as Troy said, "standing around stiff and Forte-like." This is the only chance we'll have to see any return of Gim. No one will keep his or her preboot costume after the timeslip story is finished. Peyer said that Luornu "beats the sprock out of somebody" in LSH #107. When asked whether that "somebody" was male or female, Peyer said "both, sort of". The big Dark Circle story will thread through the Legion books until LSH #107, when each book will feature separate stories for a while. One book will feature an Outpost-based group, while the other will feature a group at LSH HQ. Members of each team have yet to be determined; there'll probably be some rotation between the groups' membership. It's likely that the team without the Legion leader will have a field leader, or the deputy leader. -- Alex Tam goldie@intergate.bc.ca; Nachro2 on AOL ___ X OLX 2.1 TD X He's mostly dead Jim.
