The problem we found is that you have to move the security level :up so callers can run it. Doing this would also enable the callers to Shell :to DOS. Anybody have a suggestion? I tried this, too, with a friend. There's one problem, and that when you let a caller get into Dos, there's no way to restrict their access. Basically, only let your BEST friends do this stuff, because some idiot will format your hard drive if you don't. I never did try one option... because I was never as experienced in running external doors as I'd like to be. Maybe you can pick up where I left off. Maybe, in the host, you can have it run a batch file in DOS which would automatically bring you to the game. However, when they quit the game, how you'd get back, I don't know... Goodluck! Find a program called DOORWAY. You should be able to tranfer control from Telemate to DOORWAY. DOORWAY would then run your games. The upshot is that it's designed to protect access to the system. I've never used it with Telemate, but it works great either as stand alone or with most BBS programs. But you also need to be sure that none of the games have a hidden DOS shell function. Games written in BASIC especialy may abort to DOS after pressing CNTRL-BREAK. BTW, you could just get a copy of MegaHost and have a trimmed down, but very functional BBS. The registration is only around $25 last time I looked. Dnison Penndragon ... Yet the problem with SHOWGIF is that it only handles GIF 87a type files but not the 89a variety whereas with GIFLink you can view both. ... acar@freenet.vancouver.bc.ca <*> al.acar@hortus.bc.ca --- Blue Wave v2.12 * Origin: Frog Hollow Port Moody BC 604-469-0264 (1:153/290) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 177 TELEMATE Ref: D1ZH1201 Date: 01/29/96 From: AL ACAR Time: 05:41pm \/To: JASON RUDBECK (Read 6 times) Subj: GIFLink is outta control! I don't run it, but I believe it is set up similar to the standard DSZ external protocol. The external protocol section is found in the Options menu. There you should see the various external protocol settings. On the right hand side is the auto download area in which you'll see something like ^XB00. Erase that line, hit okay, and then hit the Save Options setting which is the bottom item of the options menu. After that, you should be able to select the download protocol of your choice by hitting the page down key. hope that helps. ... Government isn't the solution. It's the problem. R.
