Hi Christine, I'm with you on this one. The only way I have found to change the song is to completely re-install Telemate and go through the configuration options. Perhaps some guru could enlighten us. Looking forward to any such replies. ___ X RM 1.3 A1214 X "Let's spend the night together now." - MJ & KR --- Maximus/2 2.02 * Origin: Sydney PC Users Group Mail Exchange (3:712/505) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 177 TELEMATE Ref: CGG00003 Date: 12/09/95 From: BILL BARNES Time: 12:00am \/To: ALL (Read 8 times) Subj: Windows Version - Aust. Hi all, I have been reading various messages in here for a while re the new Windows version. It doesn't seem up to scratch in comparison to the DOS version but appears to be a creditable first attempt. Anyone know where it is available in Australia? Is anyone recommending it? Thanks. ___ X RM 1.3 A1214 X Fat bottom girls, you make the rockin' world go round! --- Maximus/2 2.02 * Origin: Sydney PC Users Group Mail Exchange (3:712/505) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 177 TELEMATE Ref: CGG00004 Date: 12/11/95 From: DAVID WRIGHT Time: 11:56am \/To: ALL (Read 8 times) Subj: RE: the connect music >Does Anyone Know Anything About The Music Telemate Plays When You >Connect or Complete A Download or Something? It's an add on you can get to play different tunes. I don't use them because they are too loud, but I've tried them :) Btw, I'm not condoning this or anything, but it says in the TMUSE12.ZIP program that if you register it, you will get about 15 or 20 more songs. I'd have to check on the filename, but inside one of the files as I recall there is the rest of the songs you get when you register. Just take a word processor, mark out the song you want, and paste it in to the tm.cfg where it says ALARMSONG1= and so on, they have several lines, so just use ALARMSONG2= for the next line in the file. None are more than 5 lines big I don't believe. I found this out about 10 minutes after I downloaded it hehe. Oh well. You can find this TMUSE12.ZIP on the ftp site, FTP.EUROPA.COM in the directory, /outgoing/telemate/utils They also have the 4.20 for dos and 1.0 for Windows copies of Telemate. Any suggestions? MC> Thanx, Hi Mike.... Actually your TM phone directory is contained in 2 files: TM.FON which contains the BBS name, phone numbers, password, etc. and TM.MEM which contains the memo entries. Sounds like your TM.MEM file is corrupt or your TM.FON file was modified and is now out of sync with TM.FON To correct an out of sync file, try loading both files at once in an editor and realign the entries. If the TM.MEM file is corrupt then delete the file and run TM. You can then re-enter your memo entries. I use Telemate 4.20 now, and haven't had a problem with ZModem. Only bug I've found is the annoying one where the DOS Window always clears the screen apon return, but that's it. Oh yeah, and it doesn't always display bright foreground colors on colored backgrounds for some reason. Dunno why. But those are minor. File transfers seem to work fine. SA> So you are an OS/2 user? I have used it and like it. I don't have it installed on my current PC, ut that is changing very soon. OS/2 is certainly better then Windows95 (I don't even want to talk about Win 3.x). WinNT's main advantage is stability, but it's system resource requirements aren't even funny anymore. OS/2 strikes a good balance. I've seen better (AmigaDOS, PC/GEOS), but support for those sort of things is completely non-existent. Lastly, I dislike MicroSoft in general, so OS/2 it is. :) While we're at it. To All: Anyone know of a good, native WPS term program for OS/2? I highly doubt there is something as good as Telemate, but when you're under OS/2, Telemate's built-in multi-threading and editor lose a lot of the appeal they have under DOS. I haven't played with OS/2 for telecommunications much (yet :). --- Blue Wave/RA v2.20 [NR] * Origin: Computer Castle / 20 Lines / Newton, NH / 603-382-0338 (1:324/127) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 177 TELEMATE Ref: CGG00007 Date: 12/09/95 From: BENJAMIN SCOTT Time: 10:18pm \/To: DAVID BRIARS (Read 8 times) Subj: Help screen on 4.12 -=> Quoting David Briars to All <=- DB> As it is, I have to hop out of TM and go to a word processor to get DB> any use at all from what documentation is provided. You're not serious, are you? Telemate's View and Edit windows make this so easy. Just open up the View Window (hit [Alt-V]) and load in TELEMATE.DOC. Or, open the Edit Window (hit [Alt-E]) and do the same. You can do this at any time, even during a download! :) I learned about many of Telemate's features by killing time reading the docs while downloading at 2400 BPS (this was a long time ago :). Or, you can do what I do: Copy TELEMATE.DOC over the TM.HLP file in your Telemate directory. This will mean [F1] will bring up your Telemate main docs. You can then use [F4] and [F5] to search, and you still have the Edit and View windows free. You do lose the context-sensitive parts of the old help, but that was so bad it wasn't even funny. :) Hope this helps! ... A social life?
