I'm hoping someone will have some experience with Convergent Technologies' systems and have some old manuals or Unix disks I could get copies of. Also, I would be interested to find a source for current Unix that will run on this system. I am quite certain it has a Motorola 68020 or later processor. I expect to open it up and have a look at the inside sometime in the next week or two. Thanks again for your quick response. --- GEcho 1.20/Pro * Origin: Blue Heron Pointe! So, if you want it to be C:\>, then SET PS1=C:\> in your ~/.profile What you want to do, can't currently be done in the Bourne shell; however, if you switch (or are already using) the Korn shell (which isn't available in the basic package on SCO v3.2, but is on the OpenServer products) -- From _Unix Shell Programming_, Lowell Jay Arthur & Ted Burns, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1994, pp108-109. [ISBN 0-471-59941-7, $29.95] The Korn Shell provides a very nice extension to the PS1 variable. The Korn Shell will reevaluate the contents of the PS1 variable and make substitutions for any variables found in the string. This is not done in the Bourne Shell. For example, if we set our PS1 variable as shown following, then the current working directory will be displayed as part of our Shell prompt. Setting your PS1 variable in this manner allows you to determine your current working directory at a glance. Reply: Ah, so there may be a diagnostic tape? Can you tell me more about this technique? Perhaps through a Sperry contact such a thing could be obtained. I am aware of the possibility of pounding on the root login with a DOS program, but I don't know how to set it up. I know how to connect the hardware, but I don't know where to find such a program. Maybe a Telix SALT routine could be written. I'm not a programmer, but I do have docs for SALT. I think the best bet is trying to find a Sperry contact, so if you have one, let me know, please.
