Sorry my friend, but rather than gaff you with silly stuff, it is best to refer this to one far more knowing than I am! Hello All, I have a question that hopefully someone could help me with. A few days ago, I was logged into my account with my internet provider, and finger'd a couple of accounts, and noticed that the last mail checks were only seconds apart.. After talking with one of the users that I had finger'd, I found that he wasn't even in town that day. After that, I decided to do another check this morning, and found that a majority of the accounts on this system show that the Mail last read date/time were only seconds apart. The server gives me this when you log in, as the OS. > SCO OpenServer(TM) Release 5 (xx.xxxx.xxx) (ttyp5) the following is the last mail read date/time from a small selection of the accounts.. this pattern continues well beyond what you would want me to post in here, but this gives you the idea of what it looks like. >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:27:48 1996 >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:27:48 1996 >New mail received Tue May 7 10:25:55 1996; > unread since Mon May 6 19:58:27 1996 >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:25:17 1996 >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:25:17 1996 >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:25:28 1996 >No unread mail >No unread mail >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:26:01 1996 >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:26:08 1996 >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:26:10 1996 > Unread mail since Tue May 7 08:46:44 1996 >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:27:05 1996 >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:27:07 1996 >No unread mail >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:27:44 1996 >Mail last read Tue May 7 02:27:51 1996 My question is, is my service provider reading my mail? Or is there something that he is running on his system periodically that is modifying the date/time stamps? I don't particularly care to have my mail scanned, and would like to know if that is the case, so that I can find a new provider.
