Still, they'll have to fight me to get my machine away from me (AT&T Globalyst 630: Pentium 100, 32MB, Slackware Linux 3.0). I have a question for you guys: I am running several OSes presently. I use XENIX (the old tired dog) UNIX Openserver and Linux. At the moment, I have no access to the internet, and thus have a relatively small number of utilities. I ddo have the development system for all but my SCO Openserver. I am interested ingetting some utilities that you folks might consider helpful. Especially PCMCIA drivers and the like. I would be willing to compile my own drivers, etc. Te exception (obviously) is SCO UNIX, as I don't have the dev.sys. Also, anybody know of a UNIX related BBS in the 817 or 214 areacode? Any help or advice would be more than welcome. When I came to gunzip them instead of getting lots of files as expected I only got one big file (for each *.gz) which is all the files one after another. Doing a gunzip -l shows only one file also. Any ideas? Could I be using the wrong version of gunzip? Or have the files some how been corrupted? -=> All the best, Paul Cadle <=- --- Terminate 3.00/Pro * Origin: Cadle's Point, off Faulty Towers. The 'gz' extension indicates a gzipped tar archive. After unzipping the gz file, then apply 'tar xvf ' to the unzipped file. lawrence@garvin.hd.co.harris.tx.us --- * Origin: The Enchanted Forest | Houston, Texas (1:106/6018) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 176 UNIX Ref: D4G00001 Date: 04/06/96 From: LAWRENCE GARVIN Time: 04:04am \/To: DARRELL BOWMAN (Read 5 times) Subj: RISC or Pentium Darrell Bowman said in a message to Lawrence Garvin: DB> Lawrence DB> You'd told me that you need more info on the RISC we had, before DB> you could tell me if it would be any faster that the Pentium. My gut feeling is that it's going to be a tossup, and the real determining factor is going to be the drive subsystem. Is the Pentium running on SCSI-II or PCI/EIDE? Also, is this implementation intended for a single-user "working from the console" environment -- or as a network server, and if so, how many users would be accessing the box? lawrence@garvin.hd.co.harris.tx.us --- * Origin: The Enchanted Forest | Houston, Texas (1:106/6018) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 176 UNIX Ref: D4G00002 Date: 04/06/96 From: LAWRENCE GARVIN Time: 02:04pm \/To: MARIS GABALINS (Read 5 times) Subj: X-Server for Win 95 Maris Gabalins said in a message to All: MG> Hello All!
