I run a charity, we don't have the ability to jump onto the American bandwagon of constantly upgrading something, especially when it does not work too well in the first place. Several orders of magnitude greater than MS in terms of reliability and stability and with package (i.e. software + hardware) lifetimes at least double. MS and the PC vendors are caught in a vicious cycle of selling software to sell hardware to sell software :-(. If you *need* Windows applications you need a PC and Windows. But expect to amortize the cost over about two years and then spend the same again on a new machine or major upgrade. CG> I run a charity, we don't have the ability to jump onto the American CG> bandwagon of constantly upgrading something, especially when CG> it does not work too well in the first place. Without knowing what you want to do it's difficult but I would suggest you seriously consider Linux or NetBSD/FreeBSD. They only cost the price of the CD, you can buy DBASE programming languages, spreadsheets, WP etc. at reasonable prices, with Linux at least you can run most programs for other x86 based Unices (yes, run the *binaries*) and, perhaps, you can pick up a load of cheapo, surplus dumb terminals :-) Mike --- * Origin: The Purple Tentacle +44 1734 266974 (2:252/305) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 176 UNIX Ref: D1X00008 Date: 01/24/96 From: JOHN POLTORAK Time: 09:29am \/To: DANNY LAROUCHE (Read 6 times) Subj: Netbios Hello Danny!
