I think I just have to do a DSR -> DTR or some such horribleness, but the cabling is a nightmare: DP-25 AUX Port, DP-25->DP-9 adapter to the DP-9 serial-parallel adapter, through an RJ-11 (I think) phone connector through a four (4) wire phone cable to the far end of the serial-parallel adapter with a Centronics connection. Works fine at all speeds, even with a straight "COPY FOO.TXT COM1:" (after a MODE to set the comm port speed, of course). Thanks much for the feedback. On our system, we had a username that had nine characters, yes, that's what I said, nine characters. I'm the Asst. Sys. Mgr, and the Sys. Mgr called our vendor today and ask them to look at it. You see, we do most of our maintenance from inside an administrative menu, so we very seldom ever go out to a shell prompt. (Therefore, I don't really know a whole lot about AIX.) Anyway, we tried to delete the user from the system from within our menu and we couldn't because the name came up invalid. We tried to do it from SMIT and couldn't because the name came up invalid. So, the Sys. Mgr called our vendor and they got rid of it. But, and here's the kicker, they said they couldn't tell her HOW they did it because it was a "security issue." Needless to say, I'm a bit ticked off! They knew she was the Admin. I don't understand why they didn't tell us. Now, do you folks no what could have been done to remove that user???
