JP| After setting up a terminal for use with Solaris and used it for a ouple JP| days, I've noticed that the setting for TERM is tvi925. I was just glad to JP| something working initially and accepted all the defaults initially, but a JP| starting to find a few problems. I have never heard of tvi925 before and JP| wondered if someone could explain what it is and whether I should change i JP| something else, or at least explain how I can find out what is ailable. That should be the Televideo-terminal-type. It should be very similar to either the vt52 or vt100 cursor-control methods. I don't think Televideo even exists as a company any more...you might have more luck with another setting. JP| In the Serial Port Manager screen there is an entry for Terminal type nd JP| tvi925 is the default, but there is no pick box and there isn't even a hel JP| button. JP| I've tried two terminal emulators, one TE/2 gives me the following choices JP| TTY, ANSI-BBS, ANSI-TE/2, VT100, IBM 3101 I'd choose vt100 or tty. JP| and the other one, KERMIT, has these available:- JP| ansi, vt100, vt102, vt220, vt52 sorry, I've no idea on that one... The host system has an Intelliport II 8-port I/O card. The problem is, when the modem is plugged into an I/O port (connected via a plain old 25-pin RS-232 cable and a null-modem adapter), it won't pick up on auto-answer! I can see the AA light (Auto Answer) blink on the modem front, I can see it *try* to answer, but it will not handshake. However, if I unplug that RS-232 cable (right then when it's trying to handshake), it'll handshake just fine! Then I can plug the cable back in and all is well. Ditto if I leave the RS-232 cable disconnected: the modem will pickup, answer, handshake just fine (at all baud rates). I can then plug the cable back in, and all works fine. But this is a real kludge of a workaround. I need to know why this is happening. The Unix ports (ttys00 thru ttys07) are all configured properly (several Unix people have gone over them with me, and all is set correctly). I called the Intelliport manufacturers, and they went over the port configuration, and confirm that all *that* is properly configured. They haven't a clue, can only say "Well, sometimes bad cables do that." It shouldn't be the Zoom modem settings: I reset it to factory settings (except for the S0=1 for autoanswer, of course). I've taken this Zoom modem (with cable and null modem adapter) home, and connected it to a PC's serial port. Dial it up, and it answers and handshakes just fine! Same settings. Same cable (well, had to add a second null-modem adapter to compensate for the first one I was testing). Does anyone have a clue? I put a Radio Shack RS-232 mini-tester on the cable, and it shows all is ok, no clues there. Thanks in advance, David Kirschbaum Toad Hall kirschd@hq.ljl.com ...
