Kenneth, Emre's query was off-topic. So is your reply. KD> doesn't anyone read instructions that come with products any KD> more ? Apparently not. Have you read the UNIX echo rules? You were almost acceptable, even though off-topic, until you converted your chastisment into a flame with the inappropriate use of the word 'halfwit'. lawrence@garvin.hd.co.harris.tx.us --- * Origin: My Mail Point * Houston, Texas * (1:106/6018.8) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 176 UNIX Ref: CDA00021 Date: 09/04/95 From: LAWRENCE GARVIN Time: 02:20am \/To: DARRELL FITE (Read 9 times) Subj: square root algorithm Darrell Fite said in a message to All: DF> Here is a puzzle (at least for me) that I hope bring a DF> little enjoyment. DF> Any ideas? Please don't take this personally, Darrell. It's not meant as such, but your question greets me with serious chagrin. It occurs to me that the formula for manual computation of a square root used to be REQUIRED curriculae in every high school algebra course. While I could accept that you might have 'forgot' how to do it after a period of time, it concerns me that you have "always used your calculator" and "frankly have never thought how to do this". Perhaps your instructor has a bigger point to make than writing a shell script! I regret to say that I'll not be much help, as I think that your proper course of action is to go to the library and get a high school algebra book and look up the algorithm for computing a square root with pencil and paper. And upon acquiring that algorithm, I'd be very eager to help you write the shell script. Alas, "Algebra I" is not a topic of this conference. Good luck in your educational endeavor. lawrence@garvin.hd.co.harris.tx.us --- * Origin: My Mail Point * Houston, Texas * (1:106/6018.8) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 176 UNIX Ref: CDA00022 Date: 09/04/95 From: LAWRENCE GARVIN Time: 02:28am \/To: BOSTJAN VLAOVIC (Read 9 times) Subj: DROP Bostjan Vlaovic said in a message to Qmail: BV> SPEED READ auto configuration...
