Even with an active pre-amp in my guitars that pushes it hard, it still has kind of a "shallow grind to it. It's defiantly not as smooth or creamy sounding as my blackface Bassman, or definatly not like my plexi, but it still is pretty damn acceptable. I'm just curious if witeither Rubies or perhaps Groove Tubes migh help to "Mush" the distortion out a bit... I looked thru the schmatic and didn't find an adjustable bias pot, but like you said, being biased a bit cold is precisely why it sounds the way it does. I think if I biased it pretty hot, almost on the edge of runaway, it would deliver an increadable tone.. --- GEcho 1.11+ * Origin: The Music Room, Memphis TN (901) 452-2134 (1:123/38) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 175 GUITAR Ref: F2K00003 Date: 02/16/98 From: MARK CARRIG Time: 08:17am \/To: EDWARD ARNDT (Read 0 times) Subj: musician Hi Edward.. The Smokin' Joe Kubek Band - featuring Bnois King. I stayed for the long first set and then bagged (had surgery Tues., but I wasn't going to miss this). Joe played a Lake Placid Blue small-headstock Strat and 2 LP's--a green one and a Goldtop that went haywire halfway thru the set. Bnois played a cherry red 335. I saw when I went up to the stage after the set that it had a bound body and block markers and a lot of arm wear--didn't ask what year. Both guys' main amps were Twin Reverbs, Joe's a blackface and Bnois's a silverface. One tune had heavy Leslie-osity going on, but I didn't see a big L cab anywhere. Glad I caught this show. I missed Joanna Connor last year at this same venue--she would've been another Beeg Bargain. She plays great Blues on her LP. Sat at the bar and could see fine.
