What's different about this bottom-feeder 5 unit? I never did an A/B comparions but I played at different times a reissue TS-9 and a TS-5 thru my Bandmaster and the TS-9 definitely sounded better. In fact, I sold my TS-5 for $30 (with an A/C adapter.) * SLMR 2.1a * --- Michiana Mail Center * Origin: CW Technical Support - South Bend, IN - (219) 272-8129 (1:227/129) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 175 GUITAR Ref: F2200004 Date: 02/01/98 From: LEE MACMILLAN Time: 07:38pm \/To: AL THOMPSON (Read 0 times) Subj: Marshall Madness AT>Plate voltage. I'd willingly AT>give up 2 or 3 of my whopping 6 watts if it would extend tube life (or ake AT>possible to buy new tubes to use in it). My blackface runs between 400 & 410. Normally that would be too high but because it's cathode biased there's sort of a "regulating" effect (for lack of a better term) that allows even Russian tubes to survive. That said, I did put in a larger cathode resistor in mine to lower the current thru the tube. Didn't see to effect the sound. * SLMR 2.1a * --- Michiana Mail Center * Origin: CW Technical Support - South Bend, IN - (219) 272-8129 (1:227/129) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 175 GUITAR Ref: F2200005 Date: 02/01/98 From: LEE MACMILLAN Time: 07:38pm \/To: JEFF VINEBURG (Read 0 times) Subj: Marshall Madness JV>Damn, thanks for reminding me I want one :) JV>No, it's WeberSVT and I have no idea what that means. Spraying the pots fixed 'em and now it sounds almost decent. It still isn't nearly as loud as a Champ though. I've seen two in VG, one for $150 and one for $200. Insane! Topics include playing styles and techniques, building and modifying guitars/basses, related devices, accessories, and amplifiers. On-going discussions include the Tube/Tranny Wars, where the best clubs are (i.e. - free drinks for players), compilation tapes of echo participants, and the mystic adventures of Fission Chips across the eighth dimension. A love of music and humor are REQUIRED! Rules : 1. English is the official language of this echo, mainly because that's what most of the folks in this echo speak. (Sort of...) Keep in mind that this -is- an international echo. If you post looking for people to jam with, don't expect someone from Boise Idaho to commute to your place in Australia. (Same for selling things.) 2. Flaming is not allowed. If you want to flame someone, get a hibachi. When you've reached the point of "flaming" will be determined by the moderator. (This also includes the "no jumping on newbies" rule. Give 'em a break, huh?) 3. Aliases are -not- allowed. Please post using your real name. If you aren't sure, look at your birth certificate. 4. Ovations are allowed, but prepare to be toasted with the hibachi from rule #2. 5. All topics are welcome but try not to let message threads get more than 1 or 2 generations away from something having to do with guitars or burning Ovations. This IS the "guitar" echo, remember? 6. Strange humor can abound here. Take into account that most of the denizens of this echo have rather warped senses of humor. (After all, we're musicians!) Before you think something should be handled by rule #2, make sure they weren't yanking your chain. 7. The old "Crow T. Robot" was better. 8. Long/Big signatures are right out. A single tag line is fine, and a SHORT one line signature. More than that, and you're out of bounds, and a 12 line Head (or other stupid ascii "art") after your message is grounds for dismemberment, castration, or left-handed guitar lessons from Kurt Cobain's ghost. In a word, Don't. Same goes for any high-ASCII junk. Leave the "artwork" home. ("Tab" is not considered "ascii artwork", so feel free to post it... just don't go overboard.) 8a. "Surveys" about "where are you from", "what's your favorite band/ guitar/amp/suppository" and the like are banned from the echo. In a word, don't. Ever. Especially without prior permission. 8b. Immediately jumping into the echo with a " RULES!!!" type post will likely get you branded an idiot. You can, however, live this down by contributing semi-intelligent conversation from then on, but we'll probably still wonder about you.
