At lower volumes, it's a very nice, round, `brown' sound. As you turn it up (only vol, mic vol and tone controls) it breaks up very sweetly. It doesn't do mega-gain, like the hopped up Marshalls and Boogies, but it has a very organic tone. If you have any tolerance for the blues, check out the first few ZZ Top cd's. Most people's exposure to them is of the radio variety (Legs, Sharp Dressed Man) but their earlier stuff is a joy to hear, and not at all synth-driven. * SLMR 2.1a * Burn down the hut and call me in the morning -Dr Mbogo --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: Nuclear Fish BBS - go ahead - TRY to call us. The most used tubes for Marshalls is the EL34 (aka 6CA7) tube. A pair will do 50w or so. They switched to 5881's (aka 6L6) when the EL34's became harder to get. They're back to EL34's now. The EL84 is the tube used in the Peavey Classic 20, Fender Pro Junior, and (four) in the Vox AC30. It's a VERY sweet sounding tube when pushed. It's good for roughly 15w in pairs. I believe I'm going to build something with one EL84 soon. Waiting for the schem. It will positively scream at low levels. * SLMR 2.1a * My computer is a RU486. Ya... other than the howl on the reverb, I haven't had any problems with mine and it did just fine (on 3) at John's house with Bill and Casey playing through Marshalls and John playing through his wall-o-Fender.
