I urge everyone who cares about unsolicited commercial e-mail (spam) to boycott the RIME (or RelayNet) mail network. Their head "administrator," Don Barba, recently spammed me with an advertisement to join RelayNet for some annual fee. As I do with all of my other junk mail, I complained to his ISP and told him to cease and desist. Don, apparently taking his marbles and going home, indicated that I would no longer "be welcome to join RelayNet(tm)". I guess I am supposed to feel bad(tm) about this -- but when you consider that I am also no longer welcome to buy any cable descrabmlers, get a subscription to www.sexxxyartichokes.com, MAKE MONEY FAST, or take advantage of any of the other similar "Our research shows that this information may be of intreest to you" JunkSpam that fills my mailbox, I don't feel so bad after all. So, if you want to help keep the net spam-free, I urge you not to join RIME. If you are in RIME, the best way to help is to quit the network and make sure they know why you are leaving! (Don's e-mail address is drbarba@relaynet.org.) == Standard disclaimer: Of course, these opinions are mine and mine only, and participation is voluntary. Obviously, I'm not forcing anyone to drop RIME, and I'm only asking you to support me if you feel that this is a good cause. --- * Origin: postscript love {honk} if (1:249/106.1) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 174 MUFFIN (MAXIMUS) Ref: F2D00027Date: 02/08/98 From: MATTHEW LAIRD Time: 05:43pm \/To: ANTHONY TIBBS (Read 0 times) Subj: 32-bit doors and NT ML> Does anyone know how to get Maximus to run Windows 32-bit doors ML> propoerly? I chose NT over 95 because it's a helk of a lot more stable then 95! Of course, running a BBS under NT is not the easiest thing.... you must give up a lot for stability. While I haven't tried it with a TimEd message (TimEd is indeed reputed to have a Y2K problem), I just tried it with the internal message editor, and the result didn't look like yours (see above). Mine only shows a 2-digit year, and shows it correctly (i.e. "00"), in the "American" format. I've got 2 digits for the seconds, and dashes instead of slashes, also. Have you customized the message edit header? Maybe the problem depends on the date format selection? -Dave --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: WizInfo CBCS Minneapolis 612.721.8859 (1:282/2022) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 174 MUFFIN (MAXIMUS) Ref: F2D00030Date: 02/09/98 From: PATRICK MCCULLOUGH Time: 02:01am \/To: DAVID CHORD (Read 0 times) Subj: Max Yk2 handling? David Chord wrote in a message to All: DC> Hello All! DC> A couple of days ago I ran a little test on my system, entered a DC> message from Max and a Message from TimEd with the computer set to DC> the year 2K Well, there's a problem right there: timEd is _not_ Y2K compatible. It's a known bug, and according to timEd's author, it will not be fixed. TimEd and NetMgr both roll over and 'die' on Jan. 1, 2000. A group of NetMgr users are now working on a new program called FTNMGR to replace it. TimEd users -myself included- are on their own. :( Anyway, you'll have to use the regular BBS message system or a Y2K-capable mail editor and run the test again to see what will really happen. MV> in XTERNAL PROGRAM etc. ok, get all the door game authors to rewrite their doors so they check for the pages, and display them while a user is in the door. There is a bbs system that does all this btw (well, at least with doors).. it's called Major BBS. Mainly designed for (yech) pay-only bbses, probably because it costs over a thousand dollars for the actual bbs, then for each little add-on (like paging, or a bad-words filter, etc) it'll cost you around $100. Then each door, (which btw, have to be specially written for major bbs) you're gonna pay a few hundred to get ahold of. Personally, i like Maximus, i like freeware, and i like free-access bbses (because hey, if i'm gonna pay for anything, might as well pay for internet and get access to lots more than any Major bbs has to offer). So far I'm pretty happy because I don't use either of the capabilities of Max that have been said to require this workaround (I don't ask for birthdays and I don't set expire dates). The only thing I personally use at the moment that concerns me is the message dates coming out to 1900 as someone posted.
