They might work but don't use them on a heavy populated BBS. The problem is, the use resources as if they are all his own. When someone downloads a file the CPU utilisation boosts just because your main CPU has to do all the calculations instead of a CPU in your modem. When you have a second modem besides it, that task will suffer from the task with the WinModem. Regards, Dr. Mishra There is a program that can rename an areatag local on your BBS so you can have 2 area's with the same areatag. The best is then to rename that areatag that is not linked through to other nodes but is only intended for your points. The program checks out your in and outbound packets and makes sure that noone outside your BBS can see that you rename one area on your BBS. RIP was pretty cheesy Yeah, ANSI can be hard on those used to glossy HTML and Java doodads. But it's a lot faster too. Everyone complains about how slow the net can be. That's generally _not_ a problem with BBSs, and it's one of the strong points we can/should emphasize, IMO. GG> compared to "real" graphics, and was doomed by the lack of real GG> editors that worked like paint programs. (IMHO, of course) I only ever got RIP to work *once* during a test call to my system... was hard enough finding someone who had a RIP-capable term program, and harder still convincing them to let me watch over their shoulder. The fun part was watching the RIP protocol lock up and crash the board with me 45 minutes away. :( Crashing seemed to be par for the course with RIP PM> I need to turn on the FDN. It works a lot better on 386's than 486's although there is some improvement with a 486. My brother runs it on his 486 and it increases the capabilities about 15 %. On My 386dx40 it doubles the memory access times and all that other good stuff but of course, the access of periferals are still the same due to the 'bus route'. CB> How does max work with it? Other utils? Everything I've tried works very well with it. It has a benchmark built-in so you can test it 'before and after'. I just write all the numbers down and compare after the install. Works Great! As I said, the utility tells me this 386DX40 is running like a 486. Not too bad for software modification. I'm not all that up on the technical end of it,but perhaps you are and can see how it operates when you get it. Thanks for the message, and I'll let you know how to get it soon.
