I can't say if this is true or not, but I do have four copies on my system over here They are as follows: FEBBS100.ZIP 88K 08-06-90 FEBBS180.ZIP 260K 08-05-91 FEBBS190.ZIP 308K 12-04-91 FEBBS192.ZIP 348K 03-09-92 ...granted there are prolly newer versions out but this is what I had laying around. Anyway, by looking through each the only one that even comes close to being 'free' would be FEBBS100.zip and it's not really free. He put in an option for those on a truly tight budget to consider it cardware but everyone else NOT on a tight budget have to pay. All other of the releases don't have such an option. As you can see though his generosity in that situation was no doubt due to an early relase, major revisions have occured since then as you can tell by the file size so it prolly wouldn't be worth the trouble :) M@ --- Maximus/2 3.00 * Origin: PuFf's ReVenGe@ (940) 243-3119 (1:124/2783) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 174 MUFFIN (MAXIMUS) Ref: EBN00001Date: 07/18/97 From: MIKE CATTLE Time: 08:39am \/To: KURT WEISKE (Read 1 times) Subj: MsgHurl command problems Kurt says, "MsgHurl command problems!" The person who can hurl (and kill non-personal) messages must have the following access defined for them: >(MAX.CTL) Message Show Private to SysOp On my system, I've got moderators for each local message area, and I've worked around this by setting up barricade files to promote them to Sysop in the messages menu, in their area only. So, they can only really hurl messages out of any area defined for them. >(MSGAREA.CTL) MsgArea Food > ... > Barricade Message C:\MAX\BAR\SIGFOOD.TXT > ... > End MsgArea >(SIGFOOD.TXT) !Chef Sysop > !All Then, I was sure to change some menu commands in MENUS.CTL (like edit User, and Show Ctrl-A codes) to the access level of Sysop/Q, where I only give myself the Q key. So, this workaround works, unless you wish them to have the ability to hurl messages out of an area that also accepts private messages, without them being able to see the private messages. - Mike. --- Blue Wave/Max v2.12 * Origin: TechTalk; Calgary, Alberta. Hello Jake, Have you checked the Log to see what the users are doing at the time of the crash? If not look to see if it may be a particular door game or utility that is running at the time of crash. Other obvious questions would be what other applications are open on the computer at the time of BBS crash? Possibly one of them is trying to grab the comm port and crashing things. I had this same problem once; I used the Maximus install program to setup Max for the first time and told it to install the files in C:\MAX. Then I decided to move all bbs/mailer related stuff to subdirectories off C:\BBS and changed all paths in the controlfiles to reflect the right dirs. Silted it all and came up with the same prob you have there. How I got rid of it? Well, first move all your USER.* files to a safe place, then start Maximus with the commandline MAX -C (this tells Max to create a new user file), login to the system as New Sysop or whatever and say G)oodbye (logout again), now move (or copy so you still have a backup) your original user files back to E:\MAX overwriting the newly created ones and your troubles should be over. You might also wanna check the `File Password' statement in MAX.CTL. Shouldn't be too hard since there are specs available for the BW format. Or someone could spend some time and make their own BW door.... And problems related to the BW reader can be probably solved by using readers that work properly, unlessa the problem itself is in the BW format.
