Shoot! FMS is good, but could be a whole lot better. On the other hand, I can understand his position. I was about only the fourth person to register. DS> The main problem is "hurling" files from one area to DS> another. Can you help? I think so. What I do is open the file area (Files.BBS) that I want to move files from first. I adjust the size and position of the just opened window so I can see all the other file areas [Area Names (at least) & descrip- tions)]. I make sure the file area that I want to move the file(s) to is showing. I then highlight the file(s) and drag it to the area name where I want to put the file(s). Using + Left Mouse button, I can highlight a number of different files at one time and move them as a group to the new area. I close the Files.BBS window and say "yes" to the confirm question. I usually end up opening the "new area" and sort it by file name too. You have to be carefull and not do a whole bunch of files as a group at one time. I usually do no more than ten or fifteen. I also usually only do a couple of areas at one time and then exit the program so everything can get saved properly. After exiting, do a FBP on the local areas and you'll be all set. Hope this helps. If you need more help, Netmail me and I'll gladly try to help you out. Good luck! Victor --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Aarrgghh! Can Binkley use the max-filebase? How? Well, you can solve your problem with: SILT Maximus Control File Compiler, Version 3.00. Copyright 1989, 1995 by Lanius Corporation. All rights reserved. Command-line format: SILT [[-x]...] Valid switches are: -p Generates Maximus .PRM file, and Opus .PRM files (if requested). [...] -2a Generates optional Max 2.0-compatible AREA.* files (normal) -2u As above, but use underscores instead of dots in area name -2s As above, but use short area names (no divisions) The 3 last ones are probably your friends. Just 3.1 here. I've been wrestling with that exact situation for about a week and a half now. Things were "almost" working with Max 3.01, the ADF fossil and Bink. Add to that the CHCOMB replacement driver that is supposed to help Dos applications (Bink and Max were very unhappy receiving transmissions without it) but there were these odd happenings where everythig would be right for a while, then Max would start to experience problems displaying complete menus or doing downloads for the offline reader. Since things seemed to get worse and worse as time progressed, I decided to start looking for the problem. Lowering the serial port rate seemed only to make matters worse. I finally ended up giving up on ADF and the CHCOMB patch, and replaced them both with BNU 1.89h. The problems are gone, Max is happy (even the offline reader, plus the menus don't get partially swallowed anymore) and there are no more CRCs when Binkley is exchanging information. The moral of the story: it'll work but the BNU fossil seems to be a requirement. I've resigned myself to live with its limitation of 38400 as the maximum serial port rate. P.S. This is Windows for Workgroups, not plain old "Win 3.1" (I don't know if it makes a difference, but the comm drivers may be different). --- Msged 4.00 * Origin: Ready & Determined (819)772-9277 (1:163/506) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 174 MUFFIN (MAXIMUS) Ref: E5Z00011Date: 05/29/97 From: MICHAEL WHITE Time: 06:56pm \/To: VERN FAULKNER (Read 1 times) Subj: Tell me I'm insane VF> Yeah, I know.
