Try using SIO, it is a decent program that you can try for 21 days before you register and will let you use both DOS and OS/2 applications on the virtual com port. Otherwise, I am not aware of any way(I've never used PPP.EXE). --- Maximus/2 3.01 * Origin: Games Garden BBS[Saskatoon, SK] (306) 343-0709 (1:140/237) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 174 MUFFIN (MAXIMUS) Ref: E5B00043Date: 05/03/97 From: GARY GILMORE Time: 01:14pm \/To: JOHN ALDRICH (Read 2 times) Subj: Log request JA> I really need to back up my Maximus BBS configs... :) If all your CFG and CTL files won't fit on a 1.44 floppy, you're doing something wrong. Since that's all you really need to rebuild a Max BBS from scratch, it's something that you should be in the habit of doing. (Floppies are more reliable than a tape in most cases.) I always keep a copy of the important control files on floppy. Then I can just reinstall any software needed, dump the control files back from floppy, and I'm back to normal quickly. --gary --- Maximus v3.01 * Origin: bloom county bbs * dearborn, mi * (313)582-0888 (1:2410/400) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 174 MUFFIN (MAXIMUS) Ref: E5B00044Date: 05/04/97 From: RON MITCHELL Time: 06:29pm \/To: TERRY CAIRNS (Read 2 times) Subj: maxall for OS/2 Terry Cairns wrote in a message to Ron Mitchell: TC> The setting is set at Sysop and I'm sure it is showing Real Names to TC> everyone since I am using Oracle to review the Today's Callers .BBS TC> file!!! If you don't, it automagically assumes you are the sysop and shows the sysop level displays. Try using oracle with a -vDisgrace after the name of the file you are viewing and see if there is a difference. On my system, when I use just 'oracle ' it shows me the real names. Ever lose a Files.BBS file that had the descriptions for over 1000 files that were online!!! It is better to back up the whole BBS on a backup tape!!! Another case in point that happened to me recently!!! I caught a virus on my system and it infected ALMOST ALL of my Maximus .EXE files!!! Putting the control files on a floppy wouldn't help in this situation!!! Normally this would require a reinstall of Maximus BUT with the whole BBS system on Backup tape I restored all the .Exe's in 5 minutes!!! :) --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: T.A.P.P.S.
