Snagged it at a garage sale! For 25$ I have a Singer Zigzag stitching model 257 'Fashion Mate' circa 1971, perfect working order (Table top a little scarred but thats fine). Even have the origional manual! I have a newer 'brother machine' but you just cant get parts for it, and it has so many features, takes a degree to figure out just how to load the bobbin! It missing all attachements and manual (lost when I moved from Hawaii to San Diego). Now I have something 'standard' where I can get parts, attachments, and repair at any singer place (and just about any sewing place!). I'm still reading the manual but may play with it later today and try to make something. Oh, small note: We've lost some traffic in my net. If anyone wrote me and did not get a reply and wants one, please resend. xxcarol --- Telegard v3.09.b16 * Origin: SHENK'S EXPRESS Norfolk VA 757-486-3057 28.8 Dual (1:275/100) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 172 CRAFTING Ref: F5G00007 Date: 04/21/98 From: ROSEANNE BROWN Time: 10:33pm \/To: ALL (Read 2 times) Subj: A message from Anne Hello All! But for me, that would be overkill. I'm a ve CS> *beginning* seamstriss . Havent the slightest idea how to set a shoulde CS> piece, and so far I mostly make curtins and such. I have been there. I am very into quilting, and sewing clothes is my second choice. I don't know alterations, and would like to find someone to teach me that. I have books on it, but this is something that I think I could do better person to person. I tend to make vests for me, and work clothes for DH. He is a big guy 6'5", and it is so much more economical for me to sew or him. He buys the fabric and is patient until I get to the point of making he clothes. I sometimes go through two or three pieces (junk ugly fabric) rying to work a pattern up for him as I have to trace off of RTW clothes for patterns for him. They don't make any in his size. And to buy a pair of pants for him is about $60 to $80, and he refuses to spend that kind of money if he doesn't have to. I have made him a dress shirt and a few dress pants too. I have fabric for two more pair of dress pants in the sewing room, as well as Malden Mills olar Fleece for a jacket for him. I meant to get that done in November, but haven't started it yet. Got caught up in sewing for Christmas and other stuff. CS> I plan to go to the locla Walmarts (Has a sewing section) and look for the CS> simplest f patterns for some bright summer clothes for my 4YO. Just easy CS> shorts and tank tops. (The kind of thing so simple, you feel funny for eve CS> using a pattern .) I don't have any sewing to do for any little girls yet, but I am hoping ithin the next year that that might change. One stepdaughter is going to start trying to get pregnant next month, and DH is beside himself with the idea of grandchild.
