--------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 172 CRAFTING Ref: EFR00006 Date: 11/17/97 From: WENDY APGAR Time: 10:38am \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: Small (?) Triumphs! Because of the major amounts of stress that I have been in I was eating a lot of suger and sweets to cope. Granted, it was better than other things that I could do, but it literally had gotten to the point where, if I didn't have sweets, I didn't eat. My pain and the way I feel with the arthritis in my knees as well as the pain with my back and the asthma really helped me to make a decision that if I didn't do something I was going to end up causing even more problems for myself. So, I decided to eliminate the suger from my diet... one day at a time. When I have this in control then I'll work on eliminating the other things that my body doesn't tolerate so that eventually I'll be back on the candida lifestyle "diet". But with the stress and everything else I knew I couldn't realistically expect myself to do everything at once. Well, I have gone 7 days now with no suger (or it may be 6). Anyway, I've not eaten any suger, nor done anything that has been self-destructive, which has been amazing considering that the stress has increased because of the problems with medicare regarding mental health charges. One day at a time. I know it is a major triumph for me. I also know that there is no way that I can be around suger right now without starting to eat it again. So when I have my annual Christmas party I'm going to ask that people bring suger-free snacks and treats so that I won't have to struggle. The fact that I haven't replaced the suger with something else that was self-destructive has been a major triumph. I've also tried to listen to my body when it comes to the craft things that I do. I'll work on my stamping until my back starts hurting and then I get up and go do something else for a while and then go back to it. It seems to help a lot in reducing the length of time I have to deal with the increase in pain. So in spite of everything I'm making some good choices for me. And working at not feeling guilty for the new clothes I've had to buy to replace those that have worn out. It's hard sometimes, but I'm managing. Didn't do as well as I thought I would at the bazaars, but from what I'm hearing many of us didn't do as well with our crafts as we thought we would. Thankfully I have enough people who buy my cards I know it wasn't a problem with the quality. :-) Wendy @>-->--- ... Thanks for the prayers. I know deep down that they help, although to be honest, sometimes I wonder where God is. My pain is due to fibromyalgia, arthritis in my knees, degenerative disk disease as well as chronic back pain, MCS, asthma, etc. More than enough to handle. Thankfully I am learning to listen to my body when it comes to activities. Now when I do my rubber stamping, when my back starts to hurt I get up and go lie down or switch to another activity in a different chair. It seems to help a lot and I don't hurt for a week after I've sat and done rubber stamping for the day. It may take me a little while longer...stamping supplies out for 3 days instead of simply 1 depending on the number of cards that I am making, but overall I feel better and that is good. A small triumph.... Today is the 9th day without sugar or any self-destructive activities. Doesn't sound like much, but it is a major accomplishment for me. Decided that I really needed to stop eating the suger, and hopefully lose a little weight (or a lot of weight, but I can't look at this as a diet) because of the way I feel physically. Not to mention, the fact that I feel better about myself while I have been doing this. I made a suger-free chocolate cream pie with instant pudding. I noticed that after eating apples and bananas for snacks, the pie tasted almost too sweet. I think that is a good sign. Well, gotta go. I have more cards to color and my back is beginning to hurt. :-) Wendy @>-->--- ... Too many hobbies! Okay, a Friendship Star is made up of 9 patches, or blocks. Five of these are solid squares, 4 in your background fabric, one in your main fabric. The other four patches are half-square triangle blocks made out of your background and your main fabric. Put the 4 background squares in the 4 corners of the block. The main color square goes in the exact middle. The 4 half-square triangles go in the remaining 4 postions. Let me try to draw it. This is my first time to draw out a block on Neverending. Let's hope it works. M stands for main, b stands for background. -------------------------------------------------------- l l\ l l l l \ l l l l \ B l l l B l \ l B l l l \ l l l l M \ l l l l \ l l ------------------------------------------------------- i / l l / l l B / l l M / l l / l l / l l / l M l / l l / M l l / B l l / l l / l
