--------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Image]Puff Heart Square [Image] Materials: F hook and 4-ply, worsted weight yarn--as much as you need, of course. You could make several squares out of one 3 1/2 oz. skein. Square measures 7" x 7". Square size will be partially determined by how loose or tight you crochet, as well. Puff Stitch = (YO, insert hk in sc, YO, pull loop through even with hk) 3 times, YO and draw through all 7 loops on hook. Row 1: ch 26, sc in 2nd ch from hk and in ea ch across, ch 1, turn. Row 2: sc in each sc across, ch 1, turn. Row 3: 12 sc, puff, 12 sc, ch 1, turn. (1st puff row) Row 4: repeat row 2 Row 5: 11 sc, puff, sc, puff, 11sc, ch 1, turn. (2nd puff row) Row 6: repeat row 2 Row 7: 10 sc, puff, 3 sc, puff, 10sc, ch 1, turn. (3rd puff row) Row 8: repeat row 2 9) 9 sc, puff, 5 sc, puff, 9 sc, ch 1, turn. (4th puff row) Row10: repeat row 2 Row 11: 8 sc, puff, 7sc, puff, 8sc, ch 1, turn. (5th puff row) Row 12: repeat row 2 Row 13: 7sc, puff, 9 sc, puff, 7 sc, ch 1, turn. (10th puff row) Row 22: repeat row 2 Row 23: 5sc, puff, 5 sc, puff, 1 sc, puff, 5 sc, puff, 5 sc, ch 1, turn. (11th puff row) Row 24: repeat row 2 Row 25: 6 sc, puff, 3 sc, puff, 3 sc, puff, 3 sc, puff, 6 sc, ch 1, turn. (12th puff row) Row 26: repeat row 2 Row 27: 7 sc, puff, sc, puff, 5 sc, puff, sc, puff, 7 sc, ch 1, turn. (last puff row-13) Row 28: repeat row 2 Row 29: sc in ea row down left side, (ch 1, sc) in corner, sc in ea ch across foundation row, (ch 1, sc) in corner, sc in ea row up right side, (ch 1, sc) in corner, sc across row 28, join with sl st in first st of row 29. The reason for going across row 29 in the border is so that it will be "right side" row and the piece will be 7". As always, you can adjust pattern by changing hooks or yarn type. Just be sure your horizontal and vertical gauge are the same or you'll have a short, fat heart. I never check gauge myself--I just wing it and pray. Hee hee! Now that you've done one square, why not do some more? Put them together to make an afghan for someone you love. You would need 63 squares to make an afghan approx. 49" x 63" . --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Diagonal Square [Image] Materials: G crochet hook, small amount of various colors, yarn needle, scissors Note: Change color every two rows for design, using first color as last color (rows 19-20) Stitches used: 3dc decrease: *yo, insert hk in next st, yo, draw through loop, yo, draw through 2 lps, (2 loops on hk now), rep from * again three times. (7dc) Row 19: 1dc dec, dc in next dc, dc dec, dc in top of tch, (5 sts), ch 3, turn. (5dc) Row 20: 3dc dec. Do not finish off. Ch 1, sc all around pc, using 2 sc in ea dc row, and 3 sc in corners. An afghan about 49" x 63" would require 63 squares. You could vary the color scheme by using some solid color squares, some variegated, some striped and lay the striped squares at different angles to get a different effect. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Front Cross Stitch Afghan [Image] This pattern has been revised to use dc instead of sc rows between the front cross rows. I found this to go faster. I always have more projects to make than time to make them. :-) >>> Continued to next message --- SLMR 2.1a A wok is what you throw at a wabbit. * Origin: Cajun Clickers BBS, Baton Rouge LA. The Puff Stitches will form the letters X, O, X, O, X in each stripe. If you use one color throughout you will have few ends to sew in. The pattern is very subtle. You can see an X and part of an O in the picture. The size is purposely left open so that you can make this into a baby or larger afghan. (If you want a smaller width for your baby afghan you might use a smaller hook, possibly a G.)
