My pain level is still really high and any activity makes the pain worse. It was so bad the other night that I had to take 4 of the Lorcet just to get the pain to a level that I could manage. But thankfully it isn't that bad every day. One of the reasons my pain was so high was that I had overdone it. But it is for a good reason!.... Last year I sold some of my handstamped cards to a non-profit, child abuse prevention organization that my brother is on the board of. They participate in A Children's Store which several non-profit groups do as a fundraiser. Although I usually sell my cards for $2 each they were able to sell them for $3.50 each. Because they lost money last year on some products and overall my brother wasn't sure that they would do the Children's Store again this year. (It runs 10-1 thru 2-1, I think). Anyway, they decided to participate and concentrate on those items that they made money on them, and my cards were among them! So I have a huge card order (150). I offer them the cards at less than my normal charge because I want to support the charity. Anyway, I sat down and stamped all the cards. Once they are stamped I can sit and color them. They want the cards by the beginning to mid-September. At that time I will be paid. The coloring isn't a stresser for me, although stamping as long as I did increased my pain. The order is a God-send because it means that I can buy the postage necessary to send out the September issue of Our Journey, as well as pay for a couple of my RX and hopefully to buy more cardstock and a new rubber stamp or two. :-) In addition, some kind soul paid to have me be a part of an embossing powder coop (for rubber stampers). This too was a God-send because I was running out of 3 of my embossing powders. So I consider it a blessing. My brother loaned me the money to get the card stock and I know that I have an order coming for cards so it means I won't have to wait long to pay him back. So, I'll be busy for a LONG time coloring since I have coloring to do on this card order, cards I had previously stamped 'cuz I didn't feel like coloring, and bags for a bazaar in November that my mom is doing with a friend of hers. Thankfully my church has continued to help me with the pain meds or it would have been impossible for me to do much of anything! There is also a chance (I'm praying) that I could be hired back at the auto shops where I was doing filing a number of years ago. I did part of the work here at home and could go into the office whenever and I worked for a few hours a week. I'm waiting and praying. It's a remote chance, but you never know. It would be great because it would more than replace the money I lost when I chose not to continue to babysit for the person I was babysitting for. Emotionally things have been very difficult. My panic attacks have been really bad. I even re-scheduled a dentist appointment, which triggers me, to a time when my therapist would not be out of town. The panic attacks seem to be increasing, but I know it is because of the issues that I haven't dealt with. The post traumatic stress symptoms have also been difficult to deal with. If I didn't know it was ptsd I would think I was going crazy. I hear things in my house, voices of events past and the physical feelings of the abuse. I know that the only way over is through, but it doesn't mean it makes it any easier to deal with. My therapist continues to push because we are doing intro- spective therapy which basically means he won't let me just touch the surface, I really have to think about what is there and consequently feel it. God definitely protected me yesterday. The session with my therapist was so stressful that I found it difficult to concentrate on the drive home. At one point, I went into the other lane without realizing it. Thank God there was no one beside me on the freeway or it would have been an accident for sure! I've also struggled with getting really sleepy in therapy. Steve says it is a defense mechanism, but it certainly didn't make me feel really good to keep having to ask him what I was saying since I forgot in the middle of a sentance. At least I know he was listening! :-) So I'm taking life a day at a time and taking the moments of joy as they come. I'm working at not taking my anger out on myself, but directing it where it belongs. That is really difficult for me. So, as you can see, it has been a lot of good amidst the struggle. This year there are a few changes and additions you need to know about. Let's read up and let the Crafting and Stitchin' begin! < Due to the shrinking size of the many FidoNet Crafting type echos, this year several of the echos are banding together to make this a "Joint Effort". That way we have MORE participants and MORE goodies! Anne McReary - Moderator of the CROSS-STITCHING Echo is your Exchange Hostess this year. This offer is extended to ALL CRAFTING RELATED ECHOS ON FIDONET. If your echo has not had this information posted and you want YOUR echo represented in this exchange, contact Anne and let her know. Rules for the First Annual Fido Joint Crafting Echos Christmas Ornament Exchange: 1. To join you must not be on ANY of the related Fido Crafting Echo Bad Lists. All moderators and exchange hostesses are asked to send details to Anne McReary about your "lists". 2. You must meet all the rules of the Fido Crafting Echos. 3. You must completely fill out the signup form and put your name at the signature line. (See separate post). 4. This year we will have FOUR Categories of participation. You may sign up for one or all of Canvas Needlework, Decorative Needlework, General Crafting, and Charity Donation. a. CANVAS NEEDLEWORK includes any type of Plastic Canvas, Crewel, Needlepoint or other "Canvas" based craft. b. DECORATIVE NEEDLEWORK includes Cross-Stitching, Beading, Hardanger, Pulled Thread, Silk Ribbon, Embroidery, Tatting, Crochet, Knit or Quilted Ornaments which have decorative needlework on them. c. GENERAL CRAFTWORK includes any craft included in the above two divisions AND any craftwork NOT included in the above two divisions. This may include your fancy "paperwork", rubber stamping, wood, stained glass, or any other types of appropriate crafts. d. CHARITY DONATION includes all of the above AND any other type of craft that you would consider appropriate to send to the Mary Bridge Children's Hospital Festival of Trees Charity Auction. (See separate post THIS CATEGORY HAS AN EARLY DEADLINE DUE TO THE TIMING OF THE AUCTION AND NECESSARY PAPERWORK for your TAX DEDUCTION. 5. You may only sign up for as many groups in each category as you choose. It is expected you will meet the obligation for EACH group. 6. The groups will be of anywhere from three to five people each, depending on how many people sign up. 7. For each group you sign up for, you will be asked to make an ornament for the Charity Donation group, above and beyond individual sign-up for that group specifically. So if there are 4 members in your group, a fifth ornament will be sent to the Charity Donation group as well. 8. Requests for special paperwork for the Charity Donation Group will run from August 5, 1997 through September 15, 1997. If you desire a "tax-deduction" form, you will need to send Anne McReary a Self-Addressed and STAMPED legal size envelope with your sign-up form. There are several sheets of information that must be returned to you. 9. All Charity Donation ornaments MUST BE MAILED WITH THE APPROPRIATE FORM FILLED OUT to arrive at Anne McReary's home address for further delivery NO LATER than OCTOBER 1, 1997. Anne will see that the ornaments and forms are delivered to LTC Margaret Richardson from Madigan Army Medical Center before OCTOBER 15, 1997. LTC Richardson will then make sure everything is taken care of. (See Separate Message on the Mary Bridge Children's Hospital Festival of Trees Charity Auction). 10. Signups for the Canvas Needlework Group, the Decorative Needlework Group, and General Craftwork Group will begin August 5, 1997 and run through October 5, 1997. All groupings will be posted by October 15, 1997. All ornaments are to be IN THE MAIL by November 15, 1997 so as to arrive by December 1, 1997. This way we can all have them on our trees for Christmas this year. 11. On January 1, 1997 all participants are asked to post a message to Anne McReary stating whether they received from everyone or who still owes them an ornament. Those people who have not been received from will immediately be put on the bad list until such time all of the ornaments owed have been received (qualifiers will be put out on each person though such as: Ornaments in mail but not received, One ornament lost in mail, etc.). 12. Size of ornaments is limited to tree size. Use your best judgement. See the guidelines for the Charity Donation Ornaments. 13. Please have fun and do a good job on your ornaments. When you send out what you consider to be a nice ornament to someone, you can expect to get the same back. Remember there is someone out there waiting to receive YOUR special ornament! 14. Here is the information I received from LTC Margaret Richardson of Madigan Army Medical Center, Fort Lewis, Washington: ===snip=== 11 July 1997 Dear Anne: To help raise funds for the children served by Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, I will be designing and decorating one of over 60 evergreen trees to be auctioned at the 11th annual Festival of Trees Gala on 5 December 1997. The Festival theme this year is the "Heart of the Holidays" and the theme of my tree is Victorian, which will be brought to life with a collection of ecru crochet hearts, clear acrylic hearts with natural color potpourri, clear acrylic balls with antique gold, mauve and coppered colored ribbon, gold angels, tassels with cinnabar and carved bone beads, and of course your very special contribution of hand-made ornaments for the tree. Many local businesses and individuals will also donate gifts which will be included under the tree. Some of the gifts will include a porcelain doll, gift certificates to local merchants, real and reproduction Victorian photographs in frames, possibly a wreath, and a fancy tree skirt or small quilt (crazy patchwork) if I have time. My goal is an eclectic, antique look, and I can't do it alone. What I have in mind is ornaments that have been done in various types of needlework -- ribbon embroidery, needlepoint, counted cross-stitch, regular embroidery, bead work or crazy patchwork. Colors to consider are off white to beige, black, eggplant, burgundy, hunter green, mauve, antique gold, grayed down blue, pink, or green. Colors should suggest the Victorian era or "old and faded". You may have patterns you want to use -- that is fine. I have enclosed some possible ornament shapes to consider -- these would basically be stuffed shapes. Or little drawstring pouches would be fine. If you want to make something to cover a styrofoam ball, you'll have to figure out the dimensions for that -- a 3 or 3 1/2 inch ball would be about right. Don't feel locked in to any of my suggestions except for the color schemes. Ornament designs can be medieval/renaissance, Victorian, or oriental in character/style. Also, if there is a story that goes along with your ornament, the Festival folks just love it! A story also helps "sell" the tree. In fact, this could be the first "internet/bbs" enhanced Christmas tree in the Festival's history. Example: this is an ornament made of scraps from my aunt Minnie's wardrobe who migrated to California during the gold rush, etc. If things work out according to plan, I hope to send everyone who helped out on this project a photo of the completed tree. Now in it's 11th year, the Festival of Trees has been proven to be our community's most successful holiday event, netting $380,000 last year and contributing almost 2 million dollars to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in the last decade. Moneys raised from the even will benefit the hospital which has the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the state of Washington and will benefit the Emergency Department, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and the Pediatric Transport Team. Your exchange participants ornaments and gifts, when combined with the other items I have donated personally and collected from other supporters will bring together this terrific holiday package. I have enclosed several Friends of the Festival donation forms, along with self addressed envelopes for your use. In many cases the item your participants donate are tax deductible -- they should check with their tax preparer. Filling out the Festival paperwork is important to keep accurate records of the transaction. Make sure your exchange participants fill out the paperwork and get it back to you. If your exchange participants wish to make a monetary contribution to the hospital, they need to make the check out to Mary Bridge Children's Foundation, fill out a separate form, and mail it directly to the hospital. The Festival should mail the individual donors an acknowledgement of the receipt of their gift along with some Festival general admission tickets. Donors are listed in the Festival auction catalog. If you have any further questions, contact me at crimson5@juno.com or the Festival of Trees office, (253) 552-1368. Don't forget, this is Pacific Time! Thank you for your support!
