Last week we were on vacation in Florida. Son went to Space Camp and had a marvelous time, DH and I stayed around the condo for the most part and did touristy things. We stayed in Daytona Beach (much too busy and crowded for my tastes) right on the beach. Monday we relaxed at the condo and then went to the dog races that evening. Didn't do too badly. Basically broke even. Tuesday we drove to TAMPA (in big letters due to my earlier goof) and I FINALLY got to meet the infamous Brenda Burwell!!!!!!! She is a totally neat and wonderful lady! Her fabric stash makes mine pale by comparison and I couldn't take my eyes off of it! While ogling her stash (she made the mistake of sitting me right beside some of it) my eyes caught on a particular fabric on her shelf. I let out a whoop of glee and told Brenda that she has a fabric that would just make Doris's day. I pulled it off her shelf and hen got the strip out of my purse of one of the two fabrics that Doris is looking for. Perfect match! Brenda told me to take it to Doris so I put it with my things. I had taken my mystery quilt notebook with me and Brenda looked through it and copied a few of them. I also had a Circling Swallow block with me that Brenda fell in love with. She has a pillow that she thought it would look great on so I gave it to her. I looked at her WIPS (works in progress) and then had lunch with her. Then we went to her mom's house where I saw the only quilt Brenda has ever finished. It is gorgeous! After that we went to Brenda's favorite quilt shop, The Quilt Sampler in Tampa. I did my part o keep them in business and then said good-bye to Brenda. From there we drove to Kissimee and had dinner at Medieval Times, a dinner show place. After a thoroughly enjoyable meal we drove back to the condo. The rest of the week was spent around the beach for the most part. Friday we picked my son up rom Space Camp. Saturday we checked out of the condo and drove up to Amelia Island where we got a hotel room for the night. I was extremely tired for some reason so I laid down and took a long nap. Tom and Chris went down to the beach for a last swim in the ocean. They got out to where the depth was about 5 and /2 feet and were enjoying the water when Tom felt something brush up against his legs. He looked down and saw a baby (3 foot long) shark. He immediately decided that it was time to get out of the water! Fortunately the shark either wasn't hungry or felt that Tom was too big for him because no one was hurt in the encounter! Sunday we drove home (maybe I should say that I drove home-I did ALL of the driving down and back) arriving home about 3pm very tired, but very happy with our vacation! Well, here is the report that I promised you! Yesterday I went to the ailbox and brought back all of the mail from the week that we were gone. Quite a lot to go through! Today I went to the mail box and found almost as much mail as I picked up yesterday, or so it felt! I had a large box that was from my secret pal and three squishies in the mail-two QBE blocks and one from the only Internet exchange that I have been in. I made myself open all of the other mail first as well as make me some soup for lunch (mouth hurts from the dentist so soft food is the order of the day) before I let myself open the box. In it I found a beautiful card from my pal wishing me a happy anniversary (June 26th) on the very top. In the box was another of the delicious chocolate ars she has sent me before, two long red candles, two simply fabulous candlestick holders (silver with gold bows on them), a lovely basket, and a 16 ounce bottle of Avon Bubble Bath (did you use to be my Avon lady???). The card tells me to pamper myself with a bar of chocolate in a bubble bath with lit candles in the room. Now I have to tell you the image that this conjoured up in my twisted mind. Me, in the bubble bath with the candles lit on the sink counter with Gizmo sitting on the side of the tub slapping at the bubbles, missing, hitting the chocolate bar I hold in my hand and sending it flying across the room where he pounces on it and starts playing with it. By the time I get it back it is soo dirty and full of cat hair that it no longer resembles a chocolate bar. Of course during all of this Smokey hops up on the sink counter and sets fire to the towels! No, I can't close them out of the bathroom. Gizmo knows how to open the door!! Thanks for the gifts! I will use them, just not all at the same time! In fact, I hear that bathtub calling me now!! Can you hear it? "YO, BIG MAMA! Time to take a bubble bath!" I'm positive you will like how it comes out if you try. It's relatively easy and very impressive. Remember ot do the stitches much looser than traditional embroidery. That was the hard part for me. I work in foster care and adoption. Let me know if you need more tips on using ribbon. Many of the women on the echo do ribbon work. I have a tendancy, when I work on any kind of craft, to be focused on that I tend to lose track of the time. Yesterday that was especially the case (although I did have fun doing it!) :-) I think I've mentioned that I, and some of the children I know (ages 13-14-10, some younger) are stenciling butterfly's on my car using acrylic paints. Yesterday I got started doing a border around my car, although I only finished most of one side in 4 hours, and totally forgot about the warming temperatures, the sun, and my sensitivity to heat and to the sun, made worse by the meds that I was on. As a result I ended up with major back pain, heat exhaustion, sunburned arms & the tops of my legs since I was sitting in a chair, and today I itch all over my body as well! Nobody else got sun- burned. So, I'm paying for my excesses. Thankfully I found, at Sears, a sunscreen #30 (I know...but better later than never) :-) and a moisturizor that had no fragrances, dyes, etc which I could use. I also borrowed money to get a small air conditioner for those days when temperatures are in excess of about 77 degrees. We've already had a number of days with temperatures over 80 and we aren't even in summer yet! I've also made up my mind that it would be better if I supervised my car artwork :-) from inside the house. With the older kids who have been doing it the last couple of times, I can trust the younger ones out there with them supervising. It's become a joint project. A friend told me it was reminiscent of the 70's when the "flower children" painted their vans. Ah well. If it makes me happy that is what matters right? I've been stamping and coloring periodically, and have done some sewing and a little x-stitch, although not much of that lately. I've also been working at keeping caught up with my correspondance, both on-line and snail mail. I must say that I am behind in both which is unusual for me. But the pain has been bad enough that it's kept me from much of it. I was thinking yesterday how many projects that I wanted to do (more stamping, creating bags from envelopes, sponging regular bags, reading, doing the correspondance, sorting through my buttons again and making my alphabet x-stitch banner with buttons) and not enough time to do them all in. BTW I am looking for a button shaped like a quarter note for the letter Q..it's the only think that I can think of unless I use a duck for quack? You'd think I have lots of time considering that I am unable to work, but that hasn't been the case with everything. Especially when I am doing volunteer work as well. I know I digressed a little bit to non-crafting things, but I think I am still on-topic here. Wendy @>-->--- ... You seem to be up and at em again! I was reading how excited you are at getting your craft room all orangized and what you would put into what cabnet when they finally where installed! I'm green with envy! Really! My son just informed me he has found an apartment and will be trying his own wings starting the end of June. I'm a little sad to see him go but I'm excited about having a room free to use as MY craft room!! I'm afraid it is not going to be big enough to unpack all my stuff :-( Atleast I will get all my cross stitching and paper supplies into it!!! Those are my favorite two! The sewing stuff can stay down stairs till another child decides to "wing it" on their own. I did come across a really neat paper craft I thought you might like. It combines quilting patterns with embossing watercolor paper. You make a template of the quilting pattern and pressure emboss the paper. Then fabric/colored paper/paint could be applied to the embossed paper. It was really neat looking. You could put a number of patterns together using colored strips of paper/felt/fabric and make a wall hanging or a mini pattern on a card front or.... there are just so many ideas you could apply the technique too!
