Unfortunately, I seem to get more MM> error messages than I do "gettin in" to the deeps of things. Hi Marilee, I know what you mean. What type of browser do they use? I wrote the webpage using Netscape, and I guess that's what it looks best in. MM> I don't think they did. Except maybe the princesses. When you see MM> pictures of the Jumeau and other babies, they usually seem to be MM> wearing a white dress and maybe a little coat. I'll bet if there were MM> really fancy outfits, they were bought for "show" instead of to be MM> played with. In fact, I think the modern repros are much more fussy MM> and fancied than anything I've seen pictures of from the real period. No question about it. It's as though the ladies try to outdo each other in the fanciness of the costume. Most of the old pictures show the dolls in more "serviceable" costumes that wouldn't be so difficult to keep nice. MM> I just read the other day that in parts of Appalachia some years MM> back, the girls' "best dolls" were hung on the wall as MM> ornaments. (They didn't have many room-brighteners). They were just MM> for show. The girls played with rag dolls or worn out things. That's interesting! :-) I'm working on sculpting a doll from Super Sculpey, and I believe when I'm finished with that, I'm going to try my hand at a cloth doll. I believe cloth dolls are much easier to do. I just have never done one. But being the consummate doll lover that I am (it started with making the porcelain dolls), cloth dolls is just another step in my olution. Thank you *so* much for this information. Everything I can learn to help me is appreciated. I think, though, that after all my false starts, I'm going to do a small (probably 6-8") solid, full-body. All that armature stuff is too hard for me to work with. I'm just taking a lump and forming the head, and then going from there. I have the eyes to put in next. It's going somewhat OK so far. It's just that when I go to bake it, I'll have to do it longer because the head and all are solid. (?) Beverly 1:3604/15 bcohen@goldinc.com http://www.goldinc.com/~bcohen/bcohen.html ...
