--------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 172 CRAFTING Ref: E2U00034 Date: 02/21/97 From: SUSAN BEWICK Time: 12:32pm \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: QBE Rules Update Susan threaded her needle and said to All, Copied from Nancy Coleman's post dated March 96 (Winners' list gleaned from saved messages): QBE RULES AND REQUIREMENTS 1st of Month - Current winner posts new winner's name. 1st Week of Month - New winner posts the colors and/or pattern of their choice. Remember to include your address! If the winner cannot draw the pattern on the computer, she needs to send the pattern via snail mail soon! Participants, get your requests for the pattern to the winner as soon as possible. Participants will have the rest of the month to complete and mail the block to the winner. 3rd Week of Month - Winner posts Received From/ Log * 4th Week of Month - Winner posts Received From/ Log * Last day of month - Current winner will pick new winner from list of current participants, omitting anyone who has won in that 6-month period. *** This is so the participants can see if their block was received, and also to verify that the winner has their name for the drawing. REQUIREMENTS: 1) Use 100% cotton fabrics only. (No knits, denims, or loose weaves.) 2) Please make sure finished block is the correct size, is pressed flat, and is trimmed of all loose threads. Remember - if a 12" finished block is requested, this means the block will actually be 12 1/2" - with the 1/4" seam allowance included. If you are having trouble with a particular block, please ask for help! There are very helpful, knowledgeable people here! We don't want anyone to quit because they are having trouble with it. 3) When requesting specific quilt patterns, the winner must have already sewn the block before posting it on the echo - to make sure it will turn out as it's supposed to. Also, remember that we have new and wanna-be quilters here, and don't want to scare them off with difficult patterns. Let's make this fun for all! 4) When requesting colors, please try to limit the colors to a color family - (such as light blues, dark pink, 3 different shade green, etc.) rather than specific colors. New and wanna-be quilters might not have a large stash to pick from. 5) Please sign and date your block. If the winner does not request where to sign it, it should go somewhere it will show when the quilt is finished (not in a seam allowance). You can embroider it or use a permanent pen. 6) Participants - please post a message to the current winner stating that you wish to participate and will send a block. Also, please either post your phone number here on the echo, or netmail it to me at 1:396/88, or snail mail it to me. It will *not* be given out, but would only be used if something should go wrong. (Or I wanted to chat with you! ) 7) If anyone has a problem, such as a winner who has not received a block from someone who has stated they would send one, or a participant who is unable to complete their block, please contact me via netmail (if possible). 8) Winners - please commit to the next 3 month's exchanges, at least, to ensure that there will be a nice amount of blocks for each month. 9) A winner will become eligible to win again every 6 months, using the January - June and July - December period, unless she specifically asks to be excluded from future drawings. If the number of participants is large enough, this is subject to change. 10) Have fun! ====================================================================== WINNERS: JAN 96 - Terri Lehoux - 15" Tic-Tac-Toe FEB 96 - Julia Sidebottom - 12" Missouri Star MAR 96 - Nancy Coleman - 15" Farmer's Daughter APR 96 - Ruth Hahn - House Block MAY 96 - Yvonne Didde - Favourite Star Block JUN 96 - Unknown JUL 96 - Unknown AUG 96 - Bettie West SEP 96 - Pat Knox - Any block, dark fabric w/light background OCT 96 - Teresa Herman - Ohio Star NOV 96 - Brenda Burwell - Any block using wild print w/black DEC 96 - Hiatus JAN 97 - Sylvia Lewis - Scrappy 9 Patch ====================================================================== Participant Log Date: The following people have stated that they will be sending me a block, and I have not received it as yet: I have received a block from the following people: (and please note if they are ineligible for the drawing) ====================================================================== In the past, the QBE Rules were posted monthly and as I had a saved message in my QBE folder, I updated the winners' list as best I could. Have you gotten any counted cross-stitch help yet? My forte is this type of stitch, I do it almost every day! I have a bunch of projects going. I learned this when I was 9, I'm 30 now, you do the math! What you want to do first is establish where the middle is on both the pattern graph and the canvas you are working on (whether it's tear-away or Aida) and start there. Once you get a few stitches going, you can count up from the middle (on both) and continue there. That's what I usually do, I establish myself, then carry on from where I feel most comfortable. Usually, I do my stitching in a colour by colour method. Doing all the parts that have the same symbol on the graph pattern, and then using a yellow hi-lighter to mark those parts done on the pattern really helps out alot. It gives you a feel for what the finished picture is going to look like alot faster. Have I been any help at all? I hope I have but if it's still cloudy to you write back to me, okay?! And don't worry, it will fall into place for you. I picked this up easy as pie but I can't do needlepoint to save my life!! Go figure! There's a cross- stitch echo on here too, check it out! Best wishes, Christina :) --- * Origin: Hard work has a future payoff. Laziness pays now. I can only figure three possibilities; One the lady that gifted your MIL with the Pine needle basket had worked on it for a long time before they met, 2) the lady worked at whizzzzzzzzzing speed , or 3) she was doing a different kind of pineneedle basket than i do. ???????? A week , when ever i can spare a minute, is about as fast as i can do one [menium size. Even a 'sampler' [starting with a larger center and putting on only a few rows], takes a couple of hours. I once did a large sewing basket one with double loop handles and a lid. It took me about a year. Of course, i didn't work on it steady. Congratulations on your finishing a quilt. Trapunto and shadow appique are the closest i get to quilting. Shalom, ll --- Platinum Xpress/Win/Wildcat5! v2.0GY * Origin: Webb's World BBS, On The Gulf Coast, Biloxi MS, 601-385-2817 (1:3604/73)
