The Zone 1 Backbone only carries echoes listed in the Zone 1/2 EchoList. It seems that the listing for this echo has expired. Thus, it will be necessary for someone to assume the moderatorship and list it if it is to remain on the Zone 1 Backbone. There is a three month grace period to accomplish this. For more information please consult these files: BOFAQxxx.TXT and ELISTxxx.ZIP, where "xxx" is the version number. They are available from most hubs or can be requested from 1:1/201 or 1:396/1. I have found the best arcade game since TRON... Jurassic Park. I have never felt so into a game as I have with this one. My friend and I were actually ducking from the jumping velociraptors! Anyone else played this little gem? And on another note... The only place I play arcade games anymore is at the Mall of America in, if you don't already know, Bloomington, Minnesota. There are two arcades there, somewhat small but comfy. My only beef is they only exchange three tokens per dollar. Chuck E. Cheese used to give out about five tokens per dollar. What gives? The exchange rate is almost as bad as the Yen... -Dor --- Virtual Advanced Ver 2 for DOS * Origin: The Dragon's Egg (1:282/4125) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 169 ARCADE Ref: F5G00003 Date: 04/22/98 From: JONATHAN FINGAS Time: 10:24pm \/To: DOR (Read 0 times) Subj: The ball's rolling... D> I've had my PC for just under two months now so my collection of games is D> pretty low. I haven't had the chance to play any D> shooters with the mouse but D> I can see the advantage. However, there is no way your home PC can surround D> you with as much input, both visually and audioatory, as D> Jurassic Park. Check D> it out. The game play is great as well. If you shot a raptor, its friends D> stop and look at it, so they respond to their surroundings in real time. Apparently, you don't have a terribly beefy PC. You could quite easily get The Lost World on to a Pentium II with a good 3D board (preferrably, a Voodoo 2); no detail lost whatsoever. You could get some good speakers and a PCI sound card, and - voila - surround sound is yours! As for the raptor reaction, that's just a matter of coding, not a hardware limitation. If you want proof, check out Trespasser (another Jurassic park game) when it comes out on the PC (and the PC only); its physics and AI routines would boggle your mind. D> I think Virtua Fighter 3 is at the upstairs arcade at the Mall of merica, D> but I never play the fighting sims. I get killed to fast. I did play Killer D> Instinct the last time I went out and made it to the 5th D> or 6th opponent. You D> must understand this is a big accomplishment for someone who grew up on D> Pac-Man and Donkey Kong!!! Well then, go on upstairs and check it out (at least, visually)! I've never actually seen it in motion, and I'm wondering just how fluid and real it is. I hear the clothing is actually modelled seperately from the body! I think you can do well in fighting games (they're not sims, per se); just try to learn some moves, and avoid button-mashing (hitting them randomly and frantically). Heck, if you want, try downloading the Virtua Fighter (or Virtua Fighter 2) demo and practice with that! It will probably help once you're in the arcade. --- Maximus 3.01 * Origin: BitByters BBS, Rockland ON, Can.
