First off, older doesn't necessarily mean worse (Don't you think that if he chooses to play another 5 years that Jerry Rice's next 5 years would be considerably better than Howard's?). Don't forget that Metcalf can return punts, kickoffs, catch passes and run the ball - all, as well or better than Howard. Metcalf may not fit into the system that Reeves will install so they might not be as hot for him. As for being quite a bit older, while Metcalf's been around for 8 years to Dismal's 5, he's only 2 years and 3 months older than Howard and he's probably in better shape than Dismal. RF> Tyrone Hughes of the Saints is another unrestricted free agent who Hughes plays a position that can turn a player from a hero into a goat faster than any other position in football. "Loyalty" exists as much today as it did "back then." Don't forget that loyalty in all pro sports came artificially. When no competing leagues existed, players had no choice but to re-sign with their old teams so their "loyalty" was enforced by the system. When competing leagues sprang up, "loyal" players either jumped or their teams gave them a big enough raise to remain "loyal." When those leagues folded, "disloyal" players went back to the teams that they abandoned and those that stayed and remained "loyal", saw their salaries drop. One can say that far truer "loyalty" has been displayed by players like Kirby Puckett and Larry Bird because they remained with their teams when they had much more freedom to move than guys like Ernie Banks and Bob Cousey. --- TrekEd 1.00 * Origin: Does your Big Unit have a Big Hurt? If Reeves runs a system similar to what he did in Denver, Metcalf can find a spot, however, if he runs one like New York, Metcalf wouldn't get as many touches as other players (I don't think he's ready to be a third-down player like Meggett). RF> When did he acquire the transition player status? Was that before or RF> after Reeves? Really doesn't matter, does it? Reeves isn't stupid enough to NOT keep his options open and it doesn't cost them anything to stick the transition tag on Metcalf.
