Russ, you might warn Donna to keep an ear out for a call on the 800 line from Elizabeth Kervin (sp?) in St. Louis. She works with TWA there, having been transported from NYC/Connecticut. I called to check on flights/fares to Minneapolis and somehow we ended up speaking for about half an hour. BTW, I had forgotten that TWA is employee- owned and Elizabeth certainly did a good selling job. As a result I'm flying via St. Louis instead of straight to MN. My travel agent's still shaking her head over that one but all of Northwestern's flights were booked anyway. I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go - jumped for joy when the agency came up with an assignment this weekend. P.S. Spoke with Michele last night. With his spearheading, we have made two major giant steps forward as an organization; 1) we're putting a "Can't Vote, Can't Spend" (covering all elected positions in California) initiative on the ballot and 2) Beginning Jan. l, state government information must be made available in an easily accessible form, free of charge to all constituents...perfect for fidonet echo California Politics. I've passed along this information to our local sysop, Paul Adams, and he is totally expert enough to set it up. Also, many of the Chapters stay in close contact with their Congress person...I'm lucky that I am in Duncan Hunter's District...but many of the other San Diego Districts have done lots of picketing and meeting with their Congress person. We recently had four vacant seats on the City Council and all contenders were put in contact with the UWSA rep in their area...for get acquainted purposes...Some of the groups are also involved in the local Toy Drive. "It was a kinder, more gentle kind of morning when they awoke. The morning radio voice was saying in a rather hushed voice "Nuclear devices were exploded by both sides last night....". The rest of the words seemed to simply disappear, like the soldiers on that distant battle field. The families slowly went on about their morning chores, packing lunches, getting ready for work, or school...Those words from the past ..."a kinder, more gentle nation" seemed to haunt them that morning... In the classrooms across the nation, teachers still with tears in their eyes, were trying to explain to their charges why it wouldn't be necessary to write those letters to the soldiers today...or any other day. They weren't having much success... Mothers, fathers, wives and husbands found themselves staring off into space a lot that day. How could this happen, they asked...over and over and over...
