I suppose you could email this guy listed below for his FAQ (Frequently asked questions) list about UWSA...it might be interesting to read. -Quentin ----- Begin Included Message ----- >is there an email address for united we stand? > >thanxs > >lkris To my knowledge there isn't one. I asked a computer operator at the Dallas Headquarters about this a while back, and she said that while something like that would be an idea to consider in the future, there are no plans now to implement such a public e-mail address for UWSA. The main reason is they do not think they have the manpower there to handle the volume of e-mail that they presumably would receive. This is not to say that they have no electronic communication with anybody. I've talked to the state director here in Colorado, and he's said on more than one occasion that he is in regular contact with Dallas Headquarters through e-mail. From this we can assume that there is some e-mail address on some network where these officers can communicate with the people in Dallas quickly, but obviously they are not making this/these addresse(s) public. Again, in this situation, the volume of e-mail is in all likelyhood less than what they would have to deal with if they did have a public address. I will put this information in a future edition of the UWSA FAQ, since this issue has popped up about 3 times in the past 2 months. ---Mark mmiller@nyx.cs.du.edu --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: The Big QUEUE BBS (603) 429-2419 (1:132/202) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 168 PEROT Ref: AGH00013 Date: 12/10/93 From: QUENTIN LEWIS Time: 01:30pm \/To: ALL (Read 3 times) Subj: Some info on GATT posted locally * Message originally: From: Harlow Campbell To : ALL Date: 12-09-93 Area: "F:Net132 Users " * Forwarded by Quentin Lewis using RemoteAccess 1.11+ GATT Observers of the G.A.T.T. negotiations say the agricultural part of the deal is wrapped up including concessions on rice imports by Japan and South Korea. This product, made by Sprint and TCP/IP software house Spry, will be released in Q194, and requires a 386 ( or better ) IBM-clone, and a 9600-bps modem. They're announcing it this week at Internet World in NY. The article says that the product includes a "Windows-based Internet interface with native IP protocols, access and transport services..." A quoted Spry guy says that they've tried to make it simple enough so that "if mom goes and and gets this package, she would get onto the Internet." It also comes with O'Reilly's "Whole Internet User's Guide" and some on-line magazine. "Internet-in-a-Box provides native IP on the local desktop. As a result, a computer is connected directly as a client to the network rather than being connected to a host that is then connected to the network -- the way Internet services typically operate..." "When Internet-in-a-Box is installed on a desktop, a user will get a template for registering name, address, password, Internet mail address preference and any other data to create an account with Novx Interserv on the front end and Sprint-Link on the back end. Novx Interserv, of Seattle, has developed a remote account maintenance protocol (RAMP) to provide user account, security and authentication services for Internet-in-a-Box..." "Once an account has been established, the user will be able to point and click on the File Manager application to launch an implementation of the File Transfer Protocol. Users then can access Internet E-mail via a Microsoft Mail look and feel interface developed by Spry, and use precategorized or custom-categorized Internet newsgroups, Gopher servers, Wide Area Information Services (WAIS) queries and directory services. Novx Interserv maintains Internet-in-a-Box mail servers as well as its own Gopher server." ====================================================================== Jeffrey Adam Johnson Internet: jajohnso@ingr.com ("I speak only for myself.") ====================================================================== --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: The Big QUEUE BBS (603) 429-2419 (1:132/202.0) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 168 PEROT Ref: AGH00018 Date: 12/11/93 From: QUENTIN LEWIS Time: 12:27am \/To: DUDLEY WILSON (Read 3 times) Subj: What are you going to present in Dallas?
