I have OS/2 installed, and it is working with all my DOS programs and m$ windows (which I must have to access the internet). DOS switches to and re-boots in OS/2 with no problems. OS/2 is somewhat difficult in switching to and re-booting to DOS. Once I get that taken care of, I can start looking for software to replace the (eudora/mirc/netscape/winvn) internet programs. Then I can get rid of m$ windows forever. I never liked it anyway, crashes 2-3 times every week, a real pain. One thing is puzzling though, OS/2 installed fine from my CD drive. Now that it is installed, it does not see it to load the bonuspak. Any ideas? My brother has a small business using two computers located about 50 miles apart and needs to do data entry/recall from both locations. We are using a floppy diskette to transfer the database from system to system. It is all nicely automated with BAT/CMD files and ICONS. The problem has it that he always needs to remember which location has the latest copy of the database and to actually remember do the update. This seemed to go well when he was the only one to work the systems. However, he is now employing a second person to do data-entry at a third location and will probably need work to be done at all locations in the same day although not simultaneously. I have considered setting up a BBS of sorts to upload/down load the data but this ties up a phone line with at least one system set up waiting for a call from the other and could take 10 minutes per successful upload/download. If anyone knows of some software that will allow Voice/FAX/answering-machine/BBS functions, that may answer the problem. OTOH, Using an ISP to hold the database and to either store it, or allow one manipulate it, on-line was considered. The ISP that he is presently using (Concentric) does not yet have the capacity to work a database on-line. We will consider changing the ISP. The official statement from IBM says > something along the lines of "We will see what the demand is before > committing to it." For what its worth: ___IBM Hedging Its Bet On PowerPC Chip___ IBM continues to stand behind its Unix-on-PowerPC RS/6000 platform, but it has quietly begun work on a version of its Unix operating system, AIX, for Intel's forthcoming Merced chip. The move, confirmed by an IBM executive, appears to be an attempt by IBM to hedge its bets in case Intel's 64-bit chip becomes a runaway success--at the expense of PowerPC. IBM hasn't gone so far as to retrofit the RS/6000 for Merced or to devise a marketing strategy, says the IBM executive. But that could change if the release of Merced, expected next year, becomes the watershed event that many people are predicting. So what's in store for the PowerPC? According to the source, IBM will deliver a 64-bit, 600-MHz version of the chip by the first quarter of next year. By 2000, the PowerPC will reach 1 GHz, and that will be followed by a copper-enhanced chip. The executive says the new technology will keep IBM ahead of Intel beyond 2000. But IBM wants to be ready in case that's not enough. --Martin J. Now, Iwant to set E: to ext2 so I can share OS2 and Unix swap space between boots, butIhave toinstall and test the EXT2 IFS first. One day. No problem now though. :) This is just how I did it. Some of this is to get around certian problems, like difficulty accessing the whole 9 gig drive... :) Hope this helps.
