Williams dead Hello All, Another news flash - Wendy O. Williams - R.I.P. STORRS, Conn. (AP) - Wendy O. Williams, whose stage theatrics as lead singer of the punk band The Plasmatics included blowing up televisions and chain-sawing guitars, shot herself to death Monday in a wooded area near her home. She was 48. Williams, a former sex-show performer who became the `queen of shock rock', was nominated in 1985 for a Grammy in the female rock vocal category during the height of the band's popularity. Her on-stage antics quickly attracted a following for The Plasmatics, who started in New York City clubs in 1978. The band played several international tours, was once banned in London, and appeared on Tom Snyder's `Tomorrow' show, where they blew up a car in the studio. Williams' recorded several solo albums, including a rap album under the alter ego Ultrafly and the Hometown Girls. In 1982, Williams and Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister recorded a cover of Tammy Wynette's `Stand By Your Man.' ---------------------------------------------- --- Blue Wave/386 v2.30 [NR] * Origin: The Eclectic Lab (1:153/831) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 166 MUSIC Ref: F4G00004 Date: 04/10/98 From: MARTIN RIDGLEY Time: 08:04pm \/To: ALL (Read 0 times) Subj: F-Beat/Demon Records sold! Hello All, Another news item which may be of some interest.... ------------------------------------------------------------------- ** Kingfisher buys Elvis Costello's company for 2 million pounds BY CHRIS AYRES The record label founded by singer-songwriter Elvis Costello, has been bought by Kingfisher - the retail group - to expand its fledgling Internet mail-order business. Kingfisher, which owns Woolworths, B&Q and Superdrug, will pay almost 2 million pounds in cash for F-Beat Records, the parent company of Demon. The company is expected to be merged with the music publishing arm of Entertainment UK, Kingfisher's distribution business. Entertainment UK had sales of more than 500 million pounds last year, and claims to distribute almost a quarter of the UK music and video industry's output. It recently set up an online music and video shopping business called Entertainment Express. Demon, founded by Mr Costello in 1978, sells specialist back- catalogue records by mail order. Kingfisher said that the business would be an ideal fit for Entertainment Express. Kingfisher acted amid concern by retailers that the Internet could overtake high street shopping in some sectors by offering lower prices (due to reduced overheads), and free home delivery. Details of the deal have yet to be released, but it is known that F-Beat has three main shareholders, one of them Mr. Costello. ------------------------------------------------------------------- --- Blue Wave/386 v2.30 [NR] * Origin: The Eclectic Lab (1:153/831) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 166 MUSIC Ref: F4G00005 Date: 04/11/98 From: ROGIER VAN EETEN Time: 04:56pm \/To: MAGNUS DILL (Read 0 times) Subj: Hip-Hop is da bomb Goedemorgen, Waarom schreef Magnus Dill op 10 Apr 98 om 13:16:27 aan Rogier Van eeten prachtige over Hip-Hop is da bomb?
