I was surprised to hear her singing the cover of Ednaswap's "Torn" from their album _Wacko Magneto_. In an earlier message, to Stewy I think, I predict Natalie Imbruglia's album will hit platinum here shortly after release. :) -> I like her Thorn a lot. How are her other songs? I don't know. Her album won't be released in North America until April. I do like her cover of "Torn", although I still prefer Anne Preven's (Ednaswap) a little. Mainly for the "unbalanced channel" lead in. Take the Sex Pistols for example. They were -> corporate -> FE> all along, just too stupid to realize it until the last minute. -> Actually, I agree with you on all of that. The Pistols were the first -> real "Image over Talent" bands. What I was saying is that the whole -> modern classification of "punk rock" is a corporate invention. In the -> early days Punk had no true defined sound apart from that it wasn't -> mainstream 70's corporate pap. I think most genres of music are filled with bands / musicians of corporate invention. Then there are the exceptions which make the "search" worthwhile. As an example, I went to see Jen Trynin Friday night. She put her first album, _Cockamamie_ out herself, ala Ani DiFranco. Unlike Ani, she signed to a label but nonetheless has stayed true to her music. -> Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the 90's punk scene isn't -> any good, because I still love the music, but what I've been trying -> to say is that Punk is/was both more and less than what it is often -> presented as being. While most of any genre "isn't any good", there are the exceptions. I've seen no end of argument as to whether L7, Veruca Salt, Fluffy, 7 Year Bitch, Team Dersch, Bratmobile, Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinny, etc. are "Punk". The bottom line to me is: 1) They have the energy of the "old guard", 2) they're doing it for themselves and "to hell with everyone else", 3) I love the music. :) -> Obviously the younger mob are within their rights to define the -> music and the scene as they see it, but I see them restricting -> it and walling it off rather than keeping it open like a lot -> of the older mob tried to. I think you will have bands / musicians who will try to narrow genres to avoid "comparison", and I think you will have bands / musicians who will cross genres. I think the best music is made by bands and musicians who do it for the love of music... Just my two cents worth! -> Who knows? Maybe I'm just getting old.
