Wow! I'm surprised! I do think there are a number of weak songs on the album, but I still have trouble cutting it down to just 15 tracks. JB> ...so here goes: JB> 1. Back in the USSR JB> 2. The only one on your list that I personally don't like is "Why Don't We Do It In The Road", but our selections would be very close. Here's my `single white album': 1. Back In The U.S.S.R. 2. Glass Onion 3. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da 4. While My Guitar Gently Weeps 5. Happiness is a Warm Gun 6. Martha My Dear 7. I'm So Tired 8. I Will 9. Julia 10. Yer Blues 11. Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey 12. Long, Long, Long 13. Revolution 1 14. Savoy Truffle 15. Cry Baby Cry Those are in the same order in which they appear on the existing album. I'd definitely change the track sequence if this was for real, but you get the general idea. JB> I'd been dropping subtle hints to my nearest and dearest since JB> November that the CD version of the White Album would end up in my JB> stocking come Christmas morning. And what do you think I got - Fat JB> Of The Land by The Prodigy. Not my usual cup of tea, music-wise, JB> but a good album nevertheless. LOL! CA> BTW, do you like any electronic/dance/techno/whatever.... I just CA> got the Chemical Brother's "Life Is Sweet". I think it's awesome! MR> I'm really more into pop music and `roots' music (folk, R&B, MR> blues, country-rock, bluegrass, etc.). CA> by pop, exactly what do you mean? there are many styles. Generally up-beat, melodic Pop/rock. Some of my favourite artists in that category would be: The Beatles, Elvis Costello, Squeeze, XTC, Alison Moyet, Joe Jackson, China Crisis, Kirsty MacColl, Crowded House, The Cranberries, Blur, Michael Penn, Lightning Seeds, Jellyfish, and World Party. CA> I love country-rock, southern rock, blues, funk, jazz, whatever! I was *very* much into country-rock in the early 1970s. The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers, Mike Nesmith, Poco, The Band and many others along those lines. I still enjoy it a lot and some current faves include Blue Rodeo, The Jayhawks, Wilco, The Cowboy Junkies, Son Volt, Maria McKee, and The Blue Shadows. I never got into much southern-rock except for a few blues oriented groups like The Allman Brothers Band, and a few others. I absolutely *love* The Subdudes who are sort of a southern-rock/r&b/folk/blues band. I don't listen to a lot of blues either, but I do go through regular phases when nothing else will do! When that happens I enjoy Otis Rush, Howlin' Wolf, T-Bone Walker, Earl King, Albert Collins, Peter Green, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Walter `Wolfman' Washington, Tab Benoit, Robben Ford, Tinsley Ellis, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I don't really listen to any funk, but I *love* jazz! It's hard to pick any one sub-genre that I like best although I'd say that my tastes tend to be a bit on the traditional side. I posted a list of some of my favourite jazz artists to someone else a couple of days ago. I can re-post it if you like. Being something of a bassist myself, most of the modern jazz I listen to features bass players such as Percy Jones, Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, John Patitucci, Marcus Miller, and Jonas Hellborg, etc. CA> It's all great. I love lots of music, but, see, I just don't get CA> into any of it enough to actually know a lot about it. (sorta like CA> how I play instruments: I play bass, guitar, drums, keyboards, but CA> I'm not really good at any.) Hehehe.... I know the feeling! I play guitar and bass well enough to get by. I know the notes on the keyboard but I can't do much with it. And the closest I ever get to sounding half-decent on the drums is when I programme the parts on my drum machine! ;-) Talk to you again soon.... I haven't heard mention of them in years! Not that I was a fan or anything but they were a Canadian band. As it happened they who were very successful in the late 1970s in (I believe) Germany, of all places! They never made much of an impact here in North America, but apparently used to tour Germany fairly regularly. Anyway, judging from the rest of your message (where you've mentioned Styx, Boston, and Aerosmith amongst others) you might like Saga. As I recall, Saga were slightly more melodic and progressive-sounding than those artists. They were good, but very much `of that time' and like most of the others you mentioned, I suspect they'd sound quite dated today.
