Robert Hamilton p.s. I see Jim Maccari is considering developing a higher quality Beeman R7/R8 mainspring. It would be an ideal match with a Watts custom spring guide (Paul Watts makes his spring guides to custom fit the mainspring). I'm interested, any other R7 or R8 owners interested enough in a Maccari mainspring to "spring" for it (I'd guess approx $ 30 for just the spring......?) The factory R## spring guides are pretty sorry items. A Watts custom guide runs somewhere around $25 and is far superior! ---------- From: "ksmith"@texoma.net To: Multiple recipients of list AIRGUN.LIST Subject: Re: Crosman 160 Book first edition offer Date: Friday, March 06, 1998 8:07PM > Hi dtf: > I don't have Crosman's but I will certainly recommend to any > Crosman-interested associates your book. I just wanted to warn you to watch out because their are folks out there that will try to slip you a Crosman 160 or QB22 to shoot when your not paying attention. I also received the info. on the AFFTA field target nationals at the end of May. Anybody going? Also is anyone out there going to Damascus this Saturday? The weather is supposed to be O.K. with near 50 degree tempertures. I'm definitely getting ancy about getting to a match. I've been tinkering with the FWB-P70 lately. I've found that that gun seems to like to be cleaned fairly often. I shot it 2 weeks ago and the groups at 40 yds Plus where all over the target. Last week after a cleaning, they closed back up to the 3/4" group size. The patches were not all that dirty either. Seems like I haven't gotten anything for days... I bought one of the Haenel 310's from Battlefield Arms. I got lucky, mine's in almost like-new shape. It's surprisingly well made and more accurate than I had any right to expect. Load the cute little clip up with (12) 4.4 mm lead balls, stick it in the magazine well in the bottom of the forearm, and just work the bolt-action-like cocking lever for twelve shots of fun. The balls couldn't be less expensive, either (a sleave of 10 tins with 250 balls/tin, made in Germany, is $15.00) While at a friend's house last night I used his reloading scale to weigh 10 of the 4.4 mm balls that it shoots. I imagined they'd be 5 to 6 grains, maybe 7 tops. Imagine my surprise when I found they weighed about 8 grains! I would have guessed almost any pellet would have weighed more, but I guess the diablo waist and hollow skirt area of pellets create a false impression. Haven't had a chance to chronograph it yet. I'd guess we're in the low 400's, but apparently my guesses aren't doing too well lately! If it is worth improving we do it. CO2 can open up a whole new world of shooting enjoyment. Don't let anyone convince you to pass on an obvious winner.
