Hello Tony,
-> Sometimes it seems like this area has been taken over by die-hard
-> field target shooters. I have nothing against them, but the subject
-> of airguns covers a lot more territory than that. It covers hunters,
-> plinkers, collectors of old BB guns, etc.
I hope it doesn't seem to be FT only but maybe it sometimes seems that
way. Anyway I'd like to hear from ALL airgunners about ALL types of
airguns and airgunning. Thanks for your post Tony, and keep them
coming.
Jim

I've got one and have no complaints for the price paid. Have no idea how
accurate it is, but I always "calibrate" it with a Daisy 188 spring bb gun
to make sure it reads 200 fps or thereabouts. It is a little bit finickey
about where the pellet passes over the sensors (mine seems to like it a
bit lower than the recommended 4" or so above). Also only works with
incandescent light or sunlight. Don't plan to use it under fluorescents.
I'd buy one again if I had to.

Bob,
I've had one for about 2-3 years now. I paid $89 for it, and have
never regretted it. Another friend and I got them at the same time,
and we have tested them in series on several occasions. They
generally read within 10 fps of one another, after correcting for
first/second orientation.
BTW, I noticed that the $39 offer was gone from the Chrony webpage,
so better call first to be sure that they still have some. And
post the answer back, I was thinking of getting another myself.
Best regards,
Marty Jones

Bob;
I also got the reconditioned F2 instead of the F1. The difference is
hat
the F2 has approx 29 shot memory . If you go to shot 30 (or was it 31), the
displayed vel is correct, but the stored value us incorrect, thus screwing up
the stats. They say this problem cannot be corrected unless upgraded to a
higher model, and they told me YES I can upgrade to a master version if I
ish
(but for a fee). So as long as you don't rely on the stats and/or stop at 25
or so shots you'll be ok.
Would I get on over again.....YES! no doubt about it.
Goos shooting,
RickK

Bob, I have one of these and it works fine for me. As to the accuracy they
advertise + or - 1% I think, I have no way of confirming this. If I had it
to do over I would go with the F-1 Master so I could set the electronics
part on the bench, much more conveinient and could prove cheaper in the
long run if you let a shot get away and put one in the numbers.

Just a couple of weeks ago I built my latest pellet box, and now I'm making
one for my firearms father who I found out has been holding out on me and
actually has quite a few airguns, maybe I'll get him shooting them some
more with this pellet trap.
Here's how I made them:
1/2" plywood box with inside dim.s: 6.5tall x 5.5wide x ~3" deep
a pc. of 3/8" plexiglass screwed into the back of the plywood box (not as
the back, rather screwed to the inside of the back).
1/8" x 1/2" steel screwed onto front facing edges of the plywood.
Notes:
1) the inside dimension fits 1/2 a sheet of paper (8.5 x 11), plus some
height trimming. The target will stay stuck to the clay without the need
for any other holder.
2) make the plywood box such that the back piece of wood is inside the
sides. In other words, the side pieces overlap the bottom edges. The
reason is so that the bottom can't be beaten off the sides when smashing
the clay with a hammer.
3) make sure to use good wood working techniques and drill clearance holes
for the wood screws in the first pc. of wood the screw goes through, and a
hole for the threads in the final pc. of wood (I drill the thread hole size
through both pieces, and then re-drill the top pc. to the clearance dia. I
used #8 x 1 1/4" wood screws for the box.
3) Install the steel plate such that the joint doesn't match the wood
joint. I.e., one piece of steel helps hold the opposite side of plywood,
again, to help keep the sides from coming loose when beating the clay with
a hammer. I used #8 x 3/4 (or maybe it was 1") wood screws for the steel,
and used a dremel conical cutter to cut the chamfer for the screw head in
the steel.
4) fill the box with Duct Seal in the electrical department. It's a heavy
clay like stuff. The Ace just down the street here has it for $1.89/pound.
I guess I've got five pounds or so in mine. Put a pc. of plastic sheet in
the box first to make future change of the clay easy. Put the back of the
box on a flat pc. of the concrete floor and smash the lead into the box
with a hammer.
To answer your question about how much lead it can catch, the answer is
it's amazing stuff. The front will look like chewed up clay, and no lead
really visible, and then when you start opening it up, digging down through
the clay, you find these huge lead chunks that pull out very easily. When
done cleaning out the lead (and a prying tool helps), pound the lead back
into the cavities with a hammer.
Finally, I've taken to putting a thick sheet of plastic on the clay between
uses to keep it from drying out. Anything should work, but I'm using a pc.
of that clear flexible plastic 'Clear Vue' for making insulating window
boxes with.
I'm hoping, (and expecting) this box to be the longest lived one I've made
yet.
