Let alone rely on them, To deliver anything, In a timely manner. They have got to have the SLOPPIEST Satellite delivery service ever. And I can already hear the excuses for the FTP feed, "Everything here is fine, Must be on your end", Same old song. Just my opinion. I am not a lawyer, but I understand that any local law or ordinance that is so restrictive as to limit normal TV and satellite antennas is pre-empted by the federal law. It is easier to prevent such a law from being passed than getting an existing law off the books. The local enforcement people may look the other way if they know that their law is illegal. Or, someone may have to take them to court to get rid of the local law. > We have several housing development areas here that restrict such > things...even what kind of roofing material and siding. > I don't know why anyone would want to buy a house they couldn't > personalize....especialy when wood shingles are required. I certainly would not buy such a house. However, some local anti-antenna legislation gets enacted AFTER people have moved to the area. So it is "buyer and resident beware". --- PCBoard (R) v15.3/M 2 * Origin: The Ether Net Amateur Radio BBS (1:3821/7) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 164 SATELLITES Ref: EFP00001 Date: 11/18/97 From: MIKE CASTOR Time: 07:33pm \/To: FLOYD JOHNSON (Read 3 times) Subj: DSS commercial systems * In a message originally to Steve Brack, Floyd Johnson said: > SB> What is Primestar quoting for this sort of installation? OnSat always gets to my house on time :) Just had a few issues on a trial subscription. Used to subscribe, but when they went up to $60 per year, that was just too much. At the time I was paying less than $80 per year for programming. OnSat is a fine magazine, just a tad expensive. --- PCBoard (R) v15.3/M 2 * Origin: The Ether Net Amateur Radio BBS (1:3821/7) --------------- FIDO MESSAGE AREA==> TOPIC: 164 SATELLITES Ref: EFS00001 Date: 11/21/97 From: CHARLIE YOUNG Time: 02:30pm \/To: PETER MOORE (Read 1 times) Subj: Sat subscriptions > Makes you wonder how many _non_subscribers there are that watch the big > dish... ;-) My Dad still is one of those. Two new files are emailed each morning around 9 AM. One of them is for the day one week ahead, and the other contains listings for tomorrow, (it includes schedule updates made as late as yesterday.) So, today 11/22 the files TVLIST23.ZIP (*fresh* listings for tomorrow) and TVLIST29.ZIP (advance listings for next Saturday) will be emailed to subscribers who request this service. If you request all 132 current C-band analog channels in the TV Agent listings, each TVLIST??.ZIP will be about 290K. You can leave out some of the channels, and also delete programs by type and title. You can specify the order in which the listings will appear. There's more info about this service in the file TVBYMAIL.ZIP at the FTP site ftp.planetc.com/tvlistings There's a demo of TV Agent TVADEMO.ZIP in ftp.planetc.com/tvlistings/demo It's fully functional except it only works with listings for the first 8 days of any month (TVLIST01.* - TVLIST08.*) -- if you are downloading the demo, also download at least two (consecutive) of those daily files from the demo directory. Better yet, skip the demo, just subscribe! TV Agent is less than HALF the price of the printed guides, which have shorter program descriptions, and don't have details on as many programs, and are not as up to date. MAINLY, TV Agent cuts down on the amount you have to read by hiding all the channels, program types, AND TITLES you tell it you're not interested in. AND, it remembers your favorite channels, types, and titles, AND KEYWORDS, and prints the listings that contain them, or displays them with hilites on screen -- like, it remembers what you marked last week, so it is automatically marked next week. Each copy of TV Agent remembers the personal preferences of 99 users. Subscriptions: $24.95/ year Planet Connect (423) 623-8300 1065 Cosby Hwy Newport TN 37821 ... That is NOT true at all. The Law does not address Traditional TV antennas. Outside Antennas for normal over the air TV channel reception still can be banned. The Only relief is for the 18 inch DBS antennas. And even then it only requires reasonable accomidation for their instalation. There can still be Endless Hoops to Jump through to get one approved. Things like Location, Color of antenna, Etc can still be dictated. There is also soem minor relief for HAM antennas also but still many roadblocks still can be put in the way. --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: 9-1-1 FF's LEO's OSHA COMMS (619) 669-0385 (1:202/911)
