RS> It is 6.2 I ordered a "last WP-DOS" version through Egghead just about the time that Corel bought all the WP stuff from Novell, and had been thinking it was 6.2, but I cannot find an original package for a version newer than 6.1, so decided later that I must have been mistaken about what I obtained back then. Whatever it was, it had an awkward install/setup and kept on losing my preference profile, such that I found it simpler to learn WPwin better than I'd done up to then, and although I've no recollection of deleting it from the system, the newest DOS version still avail- able on this machine seems to be 6.1 now. In addition to regular used books stores (at which you should be able to find a broad selection of what you need), check at any of the bookstores catering to local community colleges. They often have out-dated, used texts for stuff like a WordPerfect class, or a word processing course that used WordPerfect, and instead of a price of half what the book originally cost, like many of the ordinary used books stores, you can often get these old texts for just a couple of dollars! My main information source are the books that came with the program itself. However, there is a "Word Perfect v5.1 for Dummies" which looks like it is a good one. I have seen "The Word Perfect Bible", plus at least half a dozen others. They may be hard to find now, but, check at your local Crown Books, and similar book outlets. Also check at your local used book shops and the local used software stores. If you don't find something at the used book/software stores, not to worry, check back with them. Books are constantly showing up from time to time. I have found that the macro language in Word Perfect v5.1 is really quite powerful. I have managed to do simple arithmetic with the macro language and some data base type work as well. I hope that the above information is helpful. BW> There were, of course, a number of good books about how to use WP, BW> but the program's documentation (IMHO) wasn't among them. :-) Interestingly enough, the earliest versions of WordPerfect, through 4.2 or thereabouts, had a relatively decent manual (for that era, at least), with the alphabetical decriptions of functions representing only a quarter or a third of the total. Between 4.2 and 5.0, the alpha part became about 90% of the total documentation, and thus the manual was no longer useful for actually learning how to use the program. We're going back into the dark ages of PC's for WP 4.0, though -- at that time, almost none of the manuals that came with software was much use to anyone. Compared to books like the various Kelly titles I mentioned, even the 4.0 WP manual is shown up as not in the same league. Bill D ...
